Evaluate Guile based on his character design, combat usefulness, and Tilt factor -- which can mean anything, from how much he strikes you as cool to how important he is to the plot.

Guile's such a difficult one for me...

Design - No one can deny that Guile has it made here. Though his Magus origins are eviscerated, he fully inherits the intended style and even the charm of Magil. The purple hair, white silk, and other extravagant clothing -- expressed by a gentleman with a taste for adventurous enigma -- makes Guile plain awesome.

Combat - This is another victory, mainly because of his Element Grid. Most characters have grids that shrink in the upper levels.

Guile's is completely reversed. If you take this guy through a New Game +, he's going to come out as the biggest Black Element powerhouse the game has to offer. I mean, good night, even having his first tech in the Viper Manor raid is a serious help.

Tilt - This is where it hurts. He has no backstory, though his characterization is decent. If he really were Magus, I'm sure I'd have to invent an "S" rating just to fit his caliber.

So the tilt hampers it, but the charming and mysterious design + near-Magus level of "magic" mastery leaves Guile an A. A tough A...

Design: I like the look of him. He doesn't scream wizard when you look at him, but that's good in this case. This reminds me, I should do a side-by-side comparison of Guile here and Magus.

Combat: I liked having Guile in my party. He had good skills and strong magic.

Tilt: He was cooler in Radical Dreamers, but still a cool character in CC.

Grade: A

Character Design: He is designed as a stylish wizard in disguise, which would have fit him perfectly as Magus if he were Magus.

Combat Usefulness: He was pretty good in combat...certainly one of the best Black elements.

Tilt: Sorry, Guile, but while you're stylish, you're not who you were intended to be. And without that backstory...you're nothing but a powerful wizard to have in the party for only one reason.

Final Grade: C.

Sonic Boom? What does Charlie have to do with...oh, oh, OH! I get it...clever. Anyways...

Character Design - He's all maged out, I guess...Don't see a lot of those types in all white...So, I guess that's original. The little ballroom masquerade mask is a little lame. But he wins on the hair and the fact that he does a nice impression of Magus' floating/run sprite.

Combat Usefulness - He uses a wand (which was the first thing that made me realize he wasn't Magus)...His techs are kinda cool and fit with his whole magic thing. His Element Grid (one of the only unique grids in the whole game) was pretty freakin cool though...although it made it .01% harder to use him against the Devourer of Time (if you want to use the Chrono Cross) since he only has one level 1 spot on his grid. No biggie though.

Tilt Factor - He wears a mask and knows the fortune teller in Termina...That's basically his whole story. The major negative is similar to Glenn's negative in that he's part of the biggest controversy of Chrono Cross..."OMG! MAGUS IS IN THIS GAME! BUT HE WEARS A MASK AND IS CALLED GUILE! IN THE JAPANESE VERSION HE'S CALLED ALF JUST LIKE HIS CAT IN TRIGGER!" Sorry, Guile, but you're getting bumped down for the lackluster character development and that damn n00b rumor that we have to keep shooting down...

Final Grade - D

Wait, is that just heaps of sarcasm or do you really not get it? It's Guile from the Street Fighter series...and this poll is about Guile from Chrono Cross...It was stupid, which is why I said what I said (Charlie is the Street Fighter character that taught Guile his Sonic Boom move).

Oh...

And I did not honestly get it. I've never played Street Fighter and I never will.

It wasn't that stupid...

What else am I supposed to do in these threads?
I haven't played Cross since I was like 13. Even then I never got very far, hardly remember it, and didn't beat it.
Just trying to make a joke, although stupid really , to lighten up the mood.
I won't do it again. These topics are too serious for me.

Rate the specified character, of course.

Anyway, I'll give this a shot, despite never using Guile before. I know quite a lot from the Encyclopedia and seeing him in a friend's game, anyway.

Design: I honestly hate how Guile looks. Way too bright and flashy. It suits a magician, I guess... But still, looks way too flamboyant for his character, if you ask me.

Combat: Since his Grid is reversed, he's a life-saver at the start. That's about all I know until I use him myself.

Tilt: Just... Meh. He started out fine with the fortune teller thing... But that was all. No secrets to uncover, right? No development is just plain bad. Plus, the writers could've made it very clear from the beginning that he wasn't Magus.

Final Grade: C

EDIT: Aw crap, it's closed. Oh well.

You could use these topics as motivation TO play CC and try out all of the various characters...I mean, you ARE part of the Chrono Compendium, right? Oh, and don't take my comments to heart...They're just words and they can't hurt you unless you're a giant pussy.

EDIT: I didn't feel like posting a new thingy...But this one's been up since at least Monday, hasn't it? And now it's Thursday...wait, no, that's just three days, I guess...Damn my damaged Spidey-Sense...
