Need El Nido world map & Two questions about the Dragon Tear
« on: February 09, 2008, 06:20:00 pm »
First off, I need the El Nido world map. The entire thing, not just the main land or other islands, but everything. And without text, just the visuals. In one image. If someone could give me this, I'd be grateful.

Secondly, I got two questions about the Dragon Tear:

1. After Lynx and Serge used it, it shattered. Does this really mean it only has one use? What use could it have served to the Dragonians if it was only usable once? Maybe there were more Dragon Tears?

2. In the General Kid ending, Kid runs in and fights Lynx, and finds what she thinks is the Frozen Flame. But in fact, this is the Dragon Tear, right? At the end it says Porre and Guardia fell at the hands of the Dragoons, how's that possible if the "Frozen Flame" was actually just the Dragon Tear?

Ah, yes. It is a little embarrassing that we don't have that map, but once Chrono Cross's location map assembly is deduced, outputting PNGs of every map in the game will be a piece of cake.

1. It's unavoidable; we have to examine things from Belthasar's perspective. In shattering, the Dragon Tears provided the multidimensional pieces used to make the Chrono Cross, and they were only meant to shatter in 1020 A.D. So, A) they may always shatter after use, and just were never used in El Nido's history, or B) Belthasar arranged for them to shatter in those particular uses, supported by the possibility that Lynx wasn't doing the ceremony according to correct Dragonian ritual. That possibility is debatable, since Lynx was with FATE, and FATE controlled the Dragonians and would know all the rituals they performed. So I guess there's always the chance the Dragon Tear was created back in the Reptite Dimension, too. It's inconclusive.

2. At that point in the game, the player would not know it's not the Frozen Flame. I mean, the player knows anyway because it's a New Game +, but I think the ending just assumes Lynx really does have the Frozen Flame, and goes from there. It's like the other humorous endings, or the endings from Chrono Trigger which wouldn't fit in canon (like Frog's mating with Leene).

However, the act of restructuring a whole body was too great a strain on the system and caused it to overload, shattering the Dragon Tear once Serge was reborn.

I see, I'll wait then. There's no hurry.

And yeah, I rather think Belthasar had something to do with the Dragon Tears shattering, as I don't think a ritual is really required. I mean, Lynx originally already wanted to switch bodies with Serge in Viper Manor, so Fort Dragonia and the pedestal room wouldn't be a requirement for a ritual.

And well, I know we're not supposed to know it's not the Frozen Flame, but still, it says Kid and her army defeated Porre and Guardia, then how did they do that with just the Dragon Tear who doesn't have any special powers except body switching? Also, doesn't Kid kill Lynx? We don't see him escape, and I don't think she let him run away, also I don't think the Dragoons would follow her command unless she killed Lynx.

I know, it's a weird ending, Serge and crew barely beat Lynx's Shadow, but still, this ending tempts me the most.

@ Vehek: Reasonable, but that doesn't explain why it shattered when Lynx used it. Although... Maybe Lynx WAS the one who shattered it. I remember him grabbing the Dragon Tear before it shattered... Hmmm?

Does Kid getting the "Frozen Flame" in that ending really have anything to do w/them defeating Porre? Maybe just by being able to take that from him, Porre lost faith in Lynx and things just went downhill from there for them. Which would be kind of poetic justice depending on how you see the Fall of Guardia.

Hmm, that may be true, too. Maybe the Acacia Dragoons could defeat them on their own. But still, imo the ending should have said something like "and next to her throne, stood the Dragon Tear, which she thought to be the Frozen Flame." or whatever. :P
