La Boîte Orange
« on: October 27, 2007, 11:17:53 pm »
Does anyone else have The Orange Box? Decided to buy it instead of Halo 3. Here is my current rundown of the games (noting that this is my first time playing Half Life 2).

Half Life 2:

Started playing it. Awesome environment and atmosphere. FPS element is lacking so far (though I only have the pistol, machine gun and wrench). Don't have gravity gun yet. Compared to Bioshock...meh. Storytelling however is awesome; I love the real time elements and being able to control the story using the camera (aka looking outside a window some fellow humans are looking out forwards the story). Hope it gets better, because it ain't livin' up to the hype yet.

Portal

Absolutely brilliant. Learning curve is perfect. Puzzles are innovative and incredibly smart. Hilarious, and the story is pretty good too. Brilliant last level. Too bad it is too short.

The Episodes

Do you seriously think I'll play these before I finish Half Life 2!?

Team Fortress 2

Can't play online for the time being, as I am capped. No bots, which is a shame. Checked out some of the levels using the Directors Commentary function, thought it isn't really single player because there are no enemies. Looks ok.

I never really thought it did live up to the hype, I found Half-life1 to be the better game. But regardless it a fantastic game, but I will never get it for computer because A0 Steam scares the daylights out of me.B) my computer could barely run it. so I have the X-box(not 360) version. As for the others The only one that looks any good is Portal and Becuase its so short I could Just play it a Friends.  All in all The Orange Box didn't sound that great of priority, Hell of  a deal though.

The cake is a lie!

Seriously, Still Alive has to be the coolest credits song in a game ever, besides being the funniest piece of music I've heard in years. Jonathan Coulton is a genious.

Also, Half-Life 2 is absolutely awesome. Still, the best game in the Half-Life 2 saga yet is definetely Episode 2. The Hunters will blow your mind.

Maybe my problem with Half Life 2 is that it makes me dizzy and nauseous. I'm not too well accustomed to FPS's. Same happened with Halo. Portal too, but Portal was awesome enough to get me past it, although the what-the-fuck-gravity stuff was crazy. It's also damn hot and stuffy here now, so that might of contributed.

Still Alive was bloody awesome. But I found the best part of Portal the end boss battle. Now THAT was hilarious.

I like when GLaDOS tells you she invited the Weighted Companion Cube for your congrats party but it couldn't come because you killed it and that your other friends couldn't come too because you have no other friends. Seriously, I felt awful, like, shit, I was a terrible person.

Damn, I still don't have the Orange Box!! And I'm the one who advertised it on the Crisis forum. And I'm also a huge Half-Life fan. But I did get to play Episode 2, which was freaking awesome in the little time I had to play it. And I've also played TF2 which is fun for me.

But when I do buy it, I should put it on a separate Steam account, because I already have Half-Life 2, and Episode 1 on my current one, so I don't waste the CD Key.

And it's also funny how an age old engine, the Source engine, never ceases to amaze me. They designed it so it could be easily updated.

I keep telling people that that is my favourite line of the game.
