The DreamTime
« on: January 26, 2008, 01:58:35 am »
Alrighty,

Until Zeality or Chrono 99 gives me a thumbs up on the Flame Dungeons I figured we should keep the train moving forward.  Next up the Dreamtime.  Main question I have is what tileset we should be using?  I thought either:

1)  The crazy space like tileset behind flea during the fight? only problem is there's not much for ground
2)  Scenic Vista style tileset, it has the cool mountains behind it
3)  Prehistoric Huntingrounds, lots of flowers and such
4)  Singing mountain/denandoro, only difference the pallette colors

Or do we plan on making a custom tileset, we have an awful lot of tilesets not being used right now all the lavos fights, the jail, court room etc.

If were making a custom tileset I can move on to the next chapter, Dalton's last stand IIRC.

If you guys find an area from another game you'd like to insert, drop a line in this thread and we can try it in addition to the Rabite Forest tileset:

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/topic,4982.0.html

It will be easiest to get a foreign tileset straight from a ROM with the method Edward suggested in that thread, but a custom tileset from any given image is possible.

I was inspired by this sort of landscape when coming up with that chapter:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stromatolite

Basically some sort of flat land with strange round holes and round rocks, no vegetation at all, but also strange colorful smokes and bubbles floating around, what I called "Entity emanations", etc. I guess in terms of tilesets this could be the Heckran Cave one (we can pretend it's outdoor). We would add the bubbles and emanations with a custom layer 3.

Alrighty,

I started working on this before Nightmare got me the mashup for final dungeon once I finish this i'll go back to that.

Anyways I got the maps working Chrono99 was totally right about being able to make it look like it's outside.

I'm trying to use more locations then I have been previously.

Alrighty here you go:

You start off at the EoT it's deserted except Speekio is there.  He asks to fight (only if Crono is in the lead).  You fight and he opens a gate to the Dream Time.

Arrive in the dreamtime
Each character says something

I made some of the enemies "flicker" figured it was sort of an emanation effect some don't flicker.  I figured we could have two classes of these emanations.

If you go the top path you get an extra "cutscene" (it's more of a place holder right now) of the character seeing Gaspar sleeping.

Go the left path and up and you fight a boss.  Then you get an ending cutscene.

The party tells Gaspar Zeal is alive
Gaspar mentions Belthsar was going to do something similar to this.
Gaspar asks them to lead him to chronopolis.
2 party members leave Chrono is reluctant to go before gaspar but gaspar insists.
King Zeal appears between the two asking gaspar to join him, he sees Crono and asks gaspar to help him kill crono.
Gaspar tells Zeal lavos is controlling him Zeal refuses to believe and threatens to kill him.

Crono Attacks but zeal throws him into one of the entity emanation, crono screams in agony.

Zeal says he'll leave for now cause he can't use magic but he'll get him later.

ONe of the PC's return screaming crono's name.
Gaspar says they must hurry.

Phew, the ending cutscene has potential, it's basically our equivalent of crono dying at ocean palace.

I still haven't removed their techs there's alot of memory addresses used to store them so I want to make sure there's not an easier way to do it first.
