Rpg Maker is pretty much able to do anything now since RMXP came into play.

True, though a lot of things are fairly clumsy to do (for example, I haven't come across a script that manages to duplicate the Star Ocean 3 battle system without having major bugs) or are flat-out impossible without running incredibly slowly (using it as a base for a full 3D engine, where RPG Maker is used basically to just render backgrounds - hell, I wouldn't want to try and code a 3D engine in straight Ruby anyway).

It's good for what it is, though.

If you are looking for 3d, then gamemaker nor rpgxp is really for you...

If you're looking at 3D, those engines are indeed no good for you... But then, 3D is a bitch to make. If you want to make stuff like Chrono Resurrection, it's gonna take a hell of a time.

i'm just interested in 2d, luckily...  my whole thought is to simply REMAKE chrono trigger in a different engine.  that way, the modding community can use my creation for THEIR mods.  they can avoid the bugs that are currently in place (such as the 7 character limit, 5 character name limit, etc.).  i am assuming this is possible, right?

Yea it is (as that is what I am attempting).  As long as you have the mindset to learn the programming language of your choice and at the same time make it coherent and dynamic enough for others to understand and modify to suit their needs...

okay.  thanks, placidchap.

for future reference: i'm gonna get started on all this once graduation is behind me (early may), and i plan on trying to churn some stuff out.  i am open to future collaborations.  this is not a started project, so don't consider it so.  but the more the merrier (and the accountability helps motivate progress).
