Guardia and the Cannons of Porre

Ok, this may seem like a little tidbit but i took notice on the cannons of Porre stationed at Home World's Termina.. Although seemingly insignificant, some (if not most) of these cannons were faced towards the sea, what would that imply..? a Porre soldier said that they were used to intimidate and put into submission the residents of the town, but why would they have made the logistical rigor of transporting heavy artillery from the mainland to El Nido just to scare the heck out of the people of Termina? And why would they be faced towards the sea? I think that they may be facing an external threat from somebody else..

Remember during the European colonial period, the colonial powers built forts on their island territories, with cannons facing towards the sea, to ward off any attack from a rival nation who wished to claim the land for themselves..

So i thought of all the possible threats of Porre: Guldove and Marbule seemed peacful enough, and the people there looks like that they cannot mount any hostile attempts on fortress Termina. Fargo is not a pirate in Home World, he commandeers a showboat, so no (or little) threats from piracy.. that left me searching for threats OUTSIDE of El Nido, and i thought of Guardia!! the Kingdom would seem a credible threat to Porre, they might possess naval forces powerful enough to threaten Porre's sea lanes, suggesting that it wasnt destroyed, it could have survived Porre's onslaught..

How about that?? or am i just missing something?? Or is it just irrelevant?? :?

According to the Compendium record, Norris DID say something about using the Frozen Flame to defeat the "other major nations" challenging Porre or something like that. If we are restricted to non-hypothetical geography (thus eliminating distant continents never seen thus far in the Chrono world), we would have to assume that a resurgent Guardia, or Medina or Choras is responsible.

Good observation of the cannons. It makes sense in this context.

hehe, thanks.. I am not sure if and why Choras and Medina are deemed as threats by Porre, i also thought of them as possible threats.. But Guardia seems the most likely candidate..

Medina and Choras aren't really threats I think. And Guardia only was a small kingdom in Chrono Trigger, but so was Porre. Porre was, what, five houses with a shop and a major? And now it's a powerful military army in Chrono Cross. If Guardia has grown equally to Porre, I'd say it's very much possible.

Also Guardia is noted a few more times in CC. Once in the General Kid ending, it's said that Guardia was overthrown by General Kid and the Acacia Dragoons. Radius also talks about Guardia.

Meeeh, it is hard to accurately judge the size of Guardia and Porre in Chrono Trigger. It is generally assumed that no games will represent every building, landmark, or person who is "actually" there. I mean, if we take all the houses and people present in 1000 AD as an indication, each city is probably suffering horribly from inbreeding and the entire world's population is around 100, at best. That qualifies humans as an endangered species.

I also noticed that in 1000AD, Porre had more harbor facilities than Guardia, suggesting that they may have a maritime culture, also explained by their colonization of the El Nido Archipelago, and possibly the beginnings of a formidable navy..

It is generally assumed that no games will represent every building, landmark, or person who is "actually" there. I mean, if we take all the houses and people present in 1000 AD as an indication, each city is probably suffering horribly from inbreeding and the entire world's population is around 100, at best. That qualifies humans as an endangered species.

hehe, endangered.. well, RPGs (specially SNES ones) have limited grapic qualtiy.. it mght be safe to assume that both Porre and Guardia, and to a lesser extent, Choras and Medina, were large, prosperous communities in their own right..
