Wow, very well put. I guess I'm mostly speaking for myself about these things. As far as I'm concerned, the FF remakes and stuff (besides the FF and FFII ones) just aren't appealing enough for me. The bestiary and stuff is nice, but I'd much rather play the originals. Of course, I'm not on the go much to put my Gameboy to it's potential, so I'd rather just play the console ones anyway. But yeah, you're absolutely right about new gamers. In fact, I just hooked my friend up with FFVI ROM because she had NEVER played it before, FFVII was her first. >.<
I guess in that aspect, I'm all for it. I loved the classic ones more than the newer stuff, so more people being introduced to them is always a good thing. ^^
Still, I personally would rather have a new title being worked on than remakes, but that's just me. Oh, and Sword of Mana was definitely win, certainly whooped the originals ass. =P
Question for ya though:
If you were to introduce FFVI to somebody, would you suggest the original SNES version or the GBA remake?
I would choose the original. Sure the GBA has bestiary, etc. However, the new translation I.M.O. just isn't better, it edited even more stuff from the game, like you said about the Celes thing. And honestly, you can't deny the music and sounds are just awful in comparison to the original. I think in order to get the full feeling of the game, the original is still necessary, and that's why I say this stuff.
