though I do blame SE for not having another Chrono game out yet.

I don't know how much SE is to blame for that...I mean, it's difficult to start a project w/o the proper team behind it. I'd rather they wait until they can really focus the appropriate resources on Chrono 4 than come out w/some schlocky garbage that will put a taint on an otherwise awesome series. We had to wait 6/7 years for Cross, y'know?

Very true, I agree with you there. I definitely don't want them to just put out some game with "Chrono" in the title.

However, am I the only one that has had a lack of interest in SE lately? In my opinion, they should focus more on making a new title, be it Chrono, FF, whatever, than putting out remake after remake of their old FF titles, etc. I mean, we've all played those games before, and I don't think these remakes are doing them any justice anyway. FFVI's remake to the GBA for example, was so watered down musically and what not, it didn't do the game any justice at all.

But yeah, I definitely don't want them rushing and putting out stuff just to please people quickly. I'm all for waiting a long time for stuff, if it's worth the wait. So I do take the "blame" comment back. ^^

I don't know if that's true...The remake of Seiken Densetsu, Sword of Mana, was awe-inspiring in terms of the lil graphical leap & expansion of the game's system & everything. Plus, not many people ever played it even when it hit NA shores originally as Final Fantasy Adventure.

Speaking of which...sure WE'VE all played these oldschool gems, I mean, this site is (over) half about a series that's steeped in the oldschool...but there are new gamers born every day. Each gaming gen that comes brings w/it new gamers. I don't think that these people shouldn't be given the chance to play such awesome games. Not to mention the fact that it's not like they're using up their main talent to make these remakes...

Matrix Software's done a great job making two oldschool games 3D in FFIII DS & the upcoming NA release of FFIV DS (which has already done well in Japan). Hardly anyone in NA played FFIII before the DS release...outside of emulation & fan translations, of course. I'd be more than happy if they let Matrix Software eventually do the 3D DS remake for Chrono Trigger (probably wont happen until after at least a couple more 3D FF DS remakes tho)...then maybe a nice remake/port of Chrono Cross for PSP...

As for the GBA remakes of IV-VI...I think they're pretty good. New translations are always gonna get a thumbs up from me. New graphics, fairly detailed in-game beastiary (much better than beat the game and then see all the now pointless facts beastieries of the PSX remakes), & some new character art's also a nice bonus...I think FFVI got shafted the most cause it was the most graphically advanced of all of them to begin with...though I was shocked & appalled that Celes no longer had her chained to the wall sprite!!! V_V But that's a small qualm, even from me...

I'm just miffed that NA isn't getting the Dragon Quest V DS remake! WTF!?! It looks awesome! *shakes fist at English RPGers for not fully supporting the DQ series*

Wow, very well put. I guess I'm mostly speaking for myself about these things. As far as I'm concerned, the FF remakes and stuff (besides the FF and FFII ones) just aren't appealing enough for me. The bestiary and stuff is nice, but I'd much rather play the originals. Of course, I'm not on the go much to put my Gameboy to it's potential, so I'd rather just play the console ones anyway. But yeah, you're absolutely right about new gamers. In fact, I just hooked my friend up with FFVI ROM because she had NEVER played it before, FFVII was her first. >.<

I guess in that aspect, I'm all for it. I loved the classic ones more than the newer stuff, so more people being introduced to them is always a good thing. ^^

Still, I personally would rather have a new title being worked on than remakes, but that's just me. Oh, and Sword of Mana was definitely win, certainly whooped the originals ass. =P

Question for ya though:
If you were to introduce FFVI to somebody, would you suggest the original SNES version or the GBA remake?
I would choose the original. Sure the GBA has bestiary, etc. However, the new translation I.M.O. just isn't better, it edited even more stuff from the game, like you said about the Celes thing. And honestly, you can't deny the music and sounds are just awful in comparison to the original. I think in order to get the full feeling of the game, the original is still necessary, and that's why I say this stuff.

A kickass, PS2-era quality remake of FFVI with Xenogears-like gameplay would be awesome though, and perhaps the best way to introduce that wonderful game to new RPGers, as well as induce veteran RPGers to plunk down another $50~$60. Magitek mechs in 3D? I'd go for it.

Yeah, that'd be pretty awesome, a dream come true for me.

FFVI is my favorite game ever, so I'd be very picky on how the new areas and characters were displayed in 3-D graphics, but I'd absolutely drop the $60 bucks to play it at least.

I haven't finished any of the Advance remakes actually...my emulator's on overkill right now...*heh heh*...but from what I've seen of Woosley's take & RPGOne's take, the GBA translation is a nice enough medium...What you might think is 'edited' might actually be un-Woosley'd...as for the sound & music, honestly...I didn't notice anything...*shrugs* Mebby it's cause I'm using crappy speakers? I dunno...I mean, though it's some of Nobou's best, MIDI quality only goes up so far for me at all anyways...

So, in the end, I'd probably suggest the GBA versions, but actually I'd just tell 'em to wait for a 3D DS remake, which if it doesn't happen will be a damn shame. If you asked the same thing for FFIV, I'd say wait for the DS version at least.

Fair enough. Yeah, I am definitely looking forward to the 3-D ones, hopefully they pull it off and don't rush it too much, which isn't something I'm too worried about, SE has always pleased me in the past for the most part, I don't think they'll let us down.

Also, someone once posted a link to a TI-80something port of Chrono Trigger, but the search function doesn't work so I can't find the topic.
