I am ambivalent over the hand-over-heart thing, but everyone should at least stand. It's like the national anthem. No matter what country you're in, you should *always* stand.
here here, zaichikarky! here here!
this is my stance exactly.

i dont ever say it. i dont believe the words it has. but when youre asked to rise for it, i do stand and i do occasionally put my hand over my heart. i just stand quietly though. salute the flag; dont make a promise to it that you cant keep.

What line of reasoning would lead you to place no value in the Pledge of Allegiance but still feel compelled to stand up for it? That is either deeply hypocritical, or you are mistake in one of your premises.

i dont believe in the words of the pldege, hence why i dont recite it. i do, however, want to respect the flag. thats why i stand. occasionally i put my hand over my heart, occasionally i dont, but i always stand.
