Biplanes in 1000 A.D.?
« on: December 03, 2008, 07:57:07 pm »
Has anyone seen this? I apologize if this is some well known thing, but I was cruising Youtube and came across it so I thought I'd share. Around 1:11 the Epoch is seen flying over a part of Guardia where Guardia Castle is in the real game (although it's just a house or manor here), and three biplanes cross it's path. Interesting to say the least. :

Man...what a different game it would have been.

There's so many differences I can't really say anything about it unless I'd have played it myself

Yeah, it's either from the Alpha, Beta or the Prerelease...one of those damned things, I'm pretty sure...

And it's the alpha version, according to good ol' Wikipedia.

Anyhow, yeah, the planes are among the many things that really make that release seem so different from the final release.

Porre took over Guardia with World War I technology, baby. That means tanks! Looks like the Dragon Tank is the only remaining clue to the level of technology becoming common by that time.

Ha, that' funny.  And don't forget that in the real game they had electricity/refridgerators/running water in 1000 AD too. The steam engine too. 1000 AD in the Chronoverse roughly corresponds to an early 1900's level of technology.

Glad they didn't leave the planes in though. But maybe I'm just biased.

A while back I attempted to recreate one of those biplane sprites.  I wasn't fully satisfied with it, but it made it into the fan art section of the Compendium.

Actually Cald, that looks really good. It's a hell of a lot better than I could do, that's for sure.

Thanks, dude.

I know you said you're glad they didn't leave the planes in the game, but I personally think it'd be kind of cool to see somebody put them back in as a mod.  Maybe change the ferry ticket offices to small airports?  I dunno, just a thought.

Well, what I meant was that I'm glad because then it would change the CT that I know and love, not because I think it was a bad idea. I think it was actually a good idea, as the level of technology in 1000 A.D. of the Chronoverse seems to roughly correspond to the level of technology in the early 1900's.

Oh, don't worry.  No offense was taken.  I kinda see what you mean, but looking at those really old pre-release videos makes me wonder what might have been.  Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic with what we got, but I can't help wondering what got cut out/what we would've gotten if they had all the time in the world to finish the game.

Hmm, what could've been had they had all the time in the world to complete the game...

...it could have made an already perfect rpg even more awesome -head explodes-.

But then again, maybe a lot of the stuff they cut out was for a good reason? Man, I would kill for a copy of the original script.

Wow, that's really interesting.  I've never seen that footage before.  Reminds me of Act Raiser graphics, ha ha ha.
