Calling all remix artists
« on: January 06, 2011, 06:33:48 am »
Recently I started working on adding a remix sharing and browsing section to the site. If you're a remix artist looking to share your work and you'd like to volunteer to help beta test the uploading and editing functions, please apply right here!

Once your music is on the site, you can even embed it on any wiki page or in an forum post with some special tags. For example:
[remix]dEaF%20dUmB%20N%20bLiNd%20by%20WillRock%20Protodome%20Halc%20[398a7ba5196c6b386afc24e618d6d69c][/remix]

All you need is a forum account and some remixes you'd like to share.

I have a few things I could share, not remixes so much as remakes...but if it'll help to beta test this thing then the more the merry eh?

You're now in the Remix Artist group. You'll notice when you visit the Remix Center of the site, you get some extra options. Right now it's just uploading new tracks. Later it'll include modifying or removing your uploaded tracks and tagging.

Report back with any errors or problems you encounter!

Dunno if this is trouble on my end, but after hitting upload and waiting for it to complete, I get this:
Error: uploaded file must be in MP3 format and uploaded with a valid mime/type signature.

I'm attempting to upload 320 kbps mp3s, but I've no idea how to get a valid mime sig for php......

What browser and operating system are you using? Also, can you upload the file somewhere else so I can take a look at it? Usually the browser sends the mime/type automatically, so there shouldn't be anything you need to do except encode MP3s and upload them.

Turns out Google Chrome calls it audio/mp3, so I made an update. Everything should work now. Thanks for helping test things out!

well that would be all fine and dandy if this didn't occur now lol:

Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.

I do have one actual 'remix' in the true sense of the word that I should be done with hopefully sometime next week (maybe even this weekend). It's a bit unconventional, but I think the crowd here at the compendium can appreciate art more than the ocremix gang

That's weird, because it's not one of my errors, so it must be a problem with the server. Can you take a screenshot? Also let me know if it starts working. Thanks!

I found this new problem! It's all fixed now. There shouldn't be anything stopping you.

Ok it was giving me an error but now it works fine, sowwie.

My only beef is the volume bar is useless, if you actually use it to turn up the volume, well.......see what it does for yourself:

You actually helped catch the bug that was keeping it from working. Without you it may have been there for a long time, so don't apologize!

Anyway, I think the volume slider might be linear, so the difference between the middle and the top is almost negligible, since, as you might know, sound amplitude is perceived logarithmically. Fortunately, the middle is already "100%" volume, so it's main purpose right now is to allow people to turn down the volume.

I'm using someone else's player, so it may be a bit time-consuming to change, but I'll look into fixing it. Thanks for noticing that. Do you think I ought to just remove the volume button in the meantime to avoid confusion?

that's your call, but  there's quite a bit of difference in volume between certain tracks, would hate for someone to blow an ear drum going from my piano sonata to some other piece lol.

Hmm, does the player supports buffering? It seems I clicked pause and after after several minutes i resumed the player just to find it still started from the beginning.
