What happened to Magus in CC

What happened to Magus in Chrono Cross? I do not see any refrence made to him~! Does anyone know or have any therois?

He's mentioned once in the game (as "Janus", in Lucca's letter to Kid). Beyond that, read his page in the Encyclopedia, starting about midway down.

In development he was going to be Guile, but they cut his backstory out when they had too many characters. After Chrono Trigger: DS, the current popular theory is that Guile IS Magus, but with amnesia.
