Have we ever found the true answer...
« on: October 25, 2011, 11:49:47 pm »
Why is Kid's hair blonde when Schala's hair is blue?

If you honestly believe it was dyed, please give a good reason for it, or at least one that doesn't follow with "also Magus dyed his hair, while he was a blood-mongering warlord completely dedicated to revenge he found the time to gather blueberries and-" yadda yadda.

[edit] Also in Radical Dreamers, was it the Frozen Flame that sent SchKid through time, or was it her pendant?
Quote from: RD
But the stone, It had other plans for her...Turning back
the hands of her clock, scattering her memories, she was granted another
chance. Since the precious stone was in her possession, she carried with her
all its will and power. And so, she was born into this era, returning to
reality as a mere infant...

I don't think there is any official answer.
But I tend to believe that is just because different artists have different opinions.

If it wasn't that Schala's hair color in CC was also blonde, I'd have said she did it to distance Kid from herself. But yeah...

I honestly think her contact with Lavos has something to do with it. When she fused with Lavos's remnants and became the Dream Devourer is when the effects really took place on the both of them, as they'd both started to become something that was not meant to be. Even if it was only something so trivial as her hair color, Schala would have to be twisted to some degree. It's obvious that she was being warped into making her sadness become almost all of her very being, as of the magnifying effects of being a part of Lavos would do. It, more than likely, also messed with her biology alongside everything else. The hair would just be one example.

EDIT: Speaking of Dream Devourer, I found a painting that's both disturbingly similar to the Chrono Trigger character and just downright disturbing. Follow the link at your own risk.

probably won't get a real official answer, but I'd say part of the change in hair color was to have the build up and surprise about Kid's origins/connections.  I remember in my first CC playthrough, I was curious if Riddel has some sort of connection to zeal because she had an off-color hair.

There could be something along the lines pertaining to the Lavos connection, but honestly, I think it was probably more of a change to give Kid more of a "yankee" character.

Dalton was brunette! While everyone else was a blue head. :D There's your answer.

If Dalton wasn't an Earthbound, then there was no reason for him to be brunette. He should have had blue, but chose not to. Or perhaps only the Royalists dye their hair blue to stand out?

Actually, that suggests that Dalton was the one dyeing his hair. Probably because he lost a bet with five-year-old Janus.

I agree with Xenterex.  It's a rather obvious answer, but I think the developers might have anticipated that people were going to connect strange hair colours to Zeal (which isn't off the mark, reading numerous threads on this forum), and so they wanted to make it as much of a surprise as possible.

Reminds me of those cheesy hair commercials from the '90s.

::snicker::

Other random possible things about hair colour in the Chronoverse:
-Dalton's hair is brown because his mother had an affair with an Earthbound, and he's spent his entire life trying to live that down
-Dalton's hair is brown because he's a throwback to the days before magical genetic engineering turned the hair of everyone in Zeal blue, and he's spent his life trying to live that down
-Kid's hair is blonde because Schala didn't want Janus recognizing her, but the only way she could make it stick was to turn her own hair blonde before producing the clone
-Schala sent Kid off with blonde hair, then changed her own because she was afraid Serge wouldn't know who she was otherwise
-Belthasar told Schala she'd look better as a blonde (and she believed him)
-the Dream Devourer does good bleach jobs

In the end, I don't suppose we ever really will know for certain—has Squeenix ever even acknowledged the continuity error?

(Edit: forgot a few, heheh)

I picture it like how Rogue got her white streak in the first x men movie.
