Chrono Cross FAQ/ Glenn
« on: April 28, 2011, 08:44:43 pm »
Im curious about the translation of this comment. "Chrono Cross Ultimania (a guide in Japan) states that Glenn from El Nido was named after Glenn of the Middle Ages, but this isn't validated anywhere in the actual game. "

Could this mean not that it was referencing an ingame event, but siimply stating that the designers made the character as an homage to Frog (which is clearly the case.)? Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but its the kind of translation difficulty/weirdness I see all the time --
For instance, with the new elder scrolls game, a poor translation of an italian magazine lead people to believe that you wouldnt be able to make your own spells at all. In reality it meant you cant combine Fire and ice to make Fireice, and it would work as normal in the other games with the two types applied in sequence.

It's just homage. The fact that he's named after the Glenn from Chrono Trigger actually means little, as there have been several times that someone nowadays is named after someone from the past. They (the parents) probably just thought that it would make him proud to be named after a brave knight of old, and so it was given. Just a little shout out to the original game, really.
