Something that has bugged me for a while...
« on: May 08, 2011, 12:10:36 am »
Ever since Crimson Echoes was C&D'd, any and all Chrono Trigger hacking utilities have been stalled or discontinued.

As someone interested in making a hack, this frustrates me very, very much.

Isn't someone here reasonable enough to realize that, if you don't draw attention to a hack or hacking utility, it won't gain attention from Square?

apparently not, if we go about posting this type of thing out in the open waters for them to see. there's a site dedicated to the subject of romhacking in general

Yeah, if you know where to look, there's still a lot of stuff going on out there. I mean, Overture Studio's has not one but TWO Chrono RPGs in the works. Chrono Shift and Chrono Trigger II: Prelude to a Dream. Both are looking most definitely sexy-delicious with a side of awesomesauce.

Plus there's more out there, just staying very very quiet...

TheMage is correct.  Any that are being worked on are being worked on underground.  Not that I know what I'm talking about or anything.  Winkwink.

I personally don't like either of those games since neither of them have battle systems that look anything like Chrono Trigger. The Radical Dreamers RPGMaker project shows that it can in fact be done, and I find myself wondering why the battle systems of Chrono Shift and Chrono Trigger II don't look more like this:

Wait, all hacking items have been outlawed!? Dang, I thought they were just against us making new games! Why, Square Enix!? It's so much fun to toy with the game!

...on a side note, I wonder why I never learn about these things when everyone else does.

CTPrelude and CS use a different medium, a different engine, and different teams than those working on any other projects. Our battle systems almost don't even resemble each others', if you look closely. Chrono Cross had a different battle system too, as did the original RD. Sorry if you don't like RM2k3, but we're stuck on it for these games.

Well there's always RPG Maker XP and RPG Maker VX. I've worked some with VX when I had a small little project going on(that sadly went nowhere but produced enough material that I think if I gave it to someone more interested in making games they might produce something good with it.)

VX works quite well and has plenty of features far beyond anything in RPG Maker 2K3. Particularly with the scripting it uses, there's almost no limit to what you can do with it if you know how to script in Ruby.
