My non-CT meshes
« on: August 15, 2011, 05:39:09 pm »
Well, out of practice I'm trying my hand at character modelling. This one is a 3D model of a succubus character from one of my favorite anime *coughhentaicough* series. Below is the result of over 3 hours of work:

I'm working off of this concept art of her: http://mendo.rubberslug.com/gallery/inv_info.asp?ItemID=100987

Wow, seeing it untextured reminds me of the last boss on Star Fox SNES.

Uh, PSZ, I don't mean to disrespect you but... that's horrible. There are too many wrinkles in the mesh.

Didn't you try working via the rule of curves? Take a close look through the wire-frame mode and you might see the mess made by vertexes. try to "curve" the lines running from the top of the head to below, then from the front of the head to the back. The curves, if followed from every view, should help the model flow better.

This is just a rough way of putting it, but yeah, something like this.

Well it's a WIP. I was going to go into sculpt mode and smooth out the wrinkles

I figured, but irregular vertexes also give a ton of problems rigging. Also, it doesn't help keeping tho polycount too high.  :(

Yeah, I gave it a shot and traced the vertices over the red lines. I have a flat 98% finished face but I'm too pooped tonight to wrap at around the head. I want to know though... how are you able to draw out roughly good edges like that? I found it helpful but I want to be able to outline it like you did, ahead of modelling.

Practice! :D Well it's not necessary to prepare the lines beforehand, as you can already do so in wireframe mode in every 3D app, but it helps. It's just like "join the dots" to prepare the curve, but also visualize a 2D picture on how it's gonna look in 3D. Contours are packed parallels, bulges are smooth and bent. Zigzags cause a lot of problems since they almost never remain consistent.

I'll show you a reference of my Crono model later. It's not perfect, but serves for example.  :)

Here it is; not perfect, but this is the best I can do.  :) Earless, but I'll fix it eventually.

Behold, a truly CT mesh of Crono WIP!
