I say this because when the Black Omen rises out of the water I see a planet behind it. And when you see it on the map it is just a bit out of the water; certainly not in space!

I think it's just perspective, really. When seen here, we are looking out from the very top of the Black Omen. So either it's really high, or a very enormous structure.

The planet itself is earth-like, don't you think so?
Unless it has a twin like Terra and Gaia in Final Fantasy IX, but it is unlikely, nothing is mentioned in game or other materials.

It's orange-ish, like a moon in eclipse. I;m pretty sure it's just the moon.

Yeah I realize now that it is very high in the sky like maybe geosynchronous orbit. That's why you can see the roundness of the planet along with the Moon.
