No problem, then. The yew bow is essentially done (save that I think I will do what I did with the Fay Arrow, that is, follow Chrono convention and show an arrow behind it - likewise I should show a scabbard with the Arco Iris and Ara Dei as I did with the Jade Hilt and Shamshir) but I will make the background black. As for the other two, I have a fair idea how a lead sword would look (if it were Glenn, I'd make it look like a Gladius, but seeing as it's Crono, it'll have to be something different.) But Lucca's starting gun... I have no name for that, and neither do I know how you would imagine it. Lucca and Crono both return to very basic forms of weaponry, so should she do likewise, say with a flintlock gun?

That seems appropriate. This is their practice weaponry anyway; to the Guardia meeting they will wear (but not use really) the Wondershot, Rainbow, and Valkyrie. But we already have appropriate images for those.

I don't know if you all are still collecting name suggestions or not, but I thought I'd toss out a few more just in case.

Crono:
VishnuEdge (We already have Kali and Shiva, after all.)

Marle:
FairyQueen
HarpString
HeartStrng
Naveed (Since Daniel liked it, thought I'd suggest it again.  Besides, this one is my favorite.)

Lucca:
FreeRadicl (Love this one--a subtle Kid reference.)
FuturShock

Robo:
Clench
Death Grip

Frog:
CyrusSword (Come on, give Cyrus a cameo!)
Glaive
HerMajesty (A gift from Leene?)
PaxGuardia (Perhaps found following the "Origin of Guardia" scenario?)
Perilous
Quixotic
SquarTable (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Magus:
La Mort (I like this because "Love" and "Death" are spoken similarly in French [la mort/l'amour].)
Gehenna

Still haven't drawn the two, sorry. I'll do them today, for sure.

There needn't be an 'edge' on Vishnu: simply Vishnu will do fine.
For Marle, I like both HarpString and HeartStrng, as well as Naveed. FairyQueen might be fine, but we already have Fay Arrow... no, I like FairyQueen better. I think I'll substitute the name, if nobody objects. Next up... Lucca. FreeRadicl is awesome, we'll need that one for sure. I'm not to keen on FuturShock, though. For Robo... I'm okay with both of those. As for Frog... Cyrus sword, maybe. If one wishes a round about reference, call it Darius, the name of another Persian king. Glaive is a little too simple, however. Simply 'sword' is like calling one of the weapons 'katana' or 'brand'. I tossed out Falchion for this reason. As for the rest, I'm not sure at the moment, save on Quixotic. I like it, except for the ending. I'd prefer it to simply be Quixote. This would have to be an early weapon, I think, or cause some negative effect, to go along with the allusion. And Magus... I think we have enough already, but I suppose I can add those to the list. I'll put that, and some new drawings, up later.

Update:
I didn't have a chance to compile a more complete list of weapons, but I did draw some. I haven't coloured them yet, but I drew a scabbard for the Arco Iris, one for the Ara Dei (which I doubt I'll use; I like it better as a naked sword). I also drew the Flintlock, the Lead Sword, and three additional swords, though not for any specific name. I drew them similar to real swords, these being a falchion, a large Claymore or Bastard Sword, and an ancient Greek style sword (very much like Arendain's sword in my sig). The last two would be Glenn's weapons, the first, being sharp upon a single edge, Crono's. Hmmm... the bastard sword could be Quixote, perhaps. As for the falchion...Vishnu? Hmmm... no, not right. I'm wondering: should the Shamshir be instead be called Vishnu? It is an Indian sword, after all, and Vishnu is a Hindu god.

Second Update:
Well, I didn't have a chance to colour them yesterday, and today I'm going on a brief holiday, so I'll be incommunicado until Monday. But I'll do it then, leaving plenty of time before August 22nd.

Vishnu's too obvious.  We should maybe pick one of the other deities, or a word in Sanskrit.  Unfortunately, the only Sanskrit words I can think of are the lyrics to the Neodammerung, which are as follows; the lyrics have been bolded while English translations are left normal.

Brhadaranyaka Upanishad 1.3.28

asato ma sad gamaya
tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
mrtyor mamrtam gamaya

From delusion lead me to truth
From darkness lead me to light
From death lead me to immortality.

Isa Upanishad 11

vidyam cavidyam ca yas
tad vedobhayam saha
avidyaya mrtyum tirtva
vidyayamrtam asnute

He who knows both knowledge and action, with action overcomes death and with knowledge reaches immortality.

Mundaka Upanishad 2.2.5

yasmin dyauh prthivi cantariksam otam manah saha pranais ca sarvaih tam evaikam janatha atmanam anya vacah vimuncatha amrtasya esah setuh

In him are woven the sky and the earth and all the regions of the air, and in him rest the mind and all the powers of life. Know him as the ONE and leave aside all other words. He is the bridge of immortality.

Katha Upanishad 6.7

indriyebhyah param mano
manasah sattvam uttamam
sattvad adhi mahan atma
mahato vyaktam uttamam

Beyond the senses is the mind, and beyond the mind is reason, its essence. Beyond reason is the Spirit in man, and beyond this is the Spirit of the Universe, the evolver of all.

Katha Upanishad 6.10

yada pancavatisthante
jnanani manasa saha
buddhis ca na vicestate
tam ahuh paramam gatim

When the five senses and the mind are still, and reason itself rests in silence, then begins the Path supreme.

Ya ya ya ya yada yadaya
Ya ya ya ya yada yada yada yada
Yada yada yada yada yada

Mundaka Upanisad 2.2.8

bhidyate hrdayagranthis
chidyante sarvasamsayah
ksiyante casya karmani
tasmin drste paravare

And when he is seen in his immanence and transcendence, then the ties that have bound the heart are unloosened, the doubts of the mind vanish, and the law of Karma works no more.

That ought to give plenty of weapon name material.  I can also post the lyrics from Duel of the Fates and Qui-Gon's Funeral, both of which are also written in Sanskrit.  I would post One-Winged Angel, but you can all find that for yourselves.

So THAT'S the language Duel of the Fates is in?

Anyway, One-Winged Angel essentially borrows or copies off of - whichever way you choose to look at it - the song O Fortuna. Though I think that not even One-Winged Angel overcomes it in either intensity or in its usage of lyrics: O Fortuna far exceeds that FFVII song, which itself borrows the lines 'sors immanis, et inanis'. For consideration, here are the lyrics to One Winged Angel:

Latin                    .       English
Estuans interius     .   Burning inside
ira vehementi        .   With violent anger
Estuans interius     .   Burning inside
ira vehementi        .   With violent anger
Sephiros               .   Sephiroth
Sephiros               .   Sephiroth

Sors immanis        .   Fate – monstrous
Et inanis                .  and empty
Sors immanis        .  Fate – monstrous
Et inanis               .  and empty

Veni, veni, venias,  .  Come, come, O come,
Ne me mori facias   . do not let me die
Veni, veni, venias,  . Come, come, O come,
Ne me mori facias   . do not let me die

Gloriosa                 .  Glorious
Generosa                .  Noble
Gloriosa                  .  Glorious
Generosa                .  Noble

Sephiros                .    Sephiroth
Sephiros                .   Sephiroth

And here are those to O Fortuna:

 Fortuna                  .         O Fortune,
velut luna                 .         like the moon
statu variabilis,         .          you are changeable,
semper crescis         .             ever waxing
aut decrescis;           .           and waning;
vita detestabilis         .          hateful life
nunc obdurat             .           first oppresses
et tunc curat              .         and then soothes
ludo mentis aciem,     .             as fancy takes it;
egestatem,                .          poverty
potestatem                .          and power
dissolvit ut glaciem.    .           it melts them like ice.

Sors immanis              .          Fate - monstrous
et inanis,                     .     and empty,
rota tu volubilis,           .       you whirling wheel,
status malus,               .        you are malevolent,
vana salus                   .       well-being is vain
semper dissolubilis,      .          and always fades to nothing,
obumbrata                   .        shadowed
et velata                      .     and veiled
michi quoque niteris;     .          you plague me too;
nunc per ludum             .         now through the game
dorsum nudum              .          I bring my bare back
fero tui sceleris.             .     to your villainy.

Sors salutis                .        Fate is against me
et virtutis                    .     in health
michi nunc contraria,    .           and virtue,
est affectus                  .      driven on
et defectus                   .      and weighted down,
semper in angaria.        .          always enslaved.
Hac in hora                   .      So at this hour
sine mora                     .      without delay
corde pulsum tangite;    .           pluck the vibrating strings;
quod per sortem            .         since Fate
sternit fortem,               .      strikes down the string man,
mecum omnes plangite!  .             everyone weep with me!

Is what I mean plain?

Oh, and by the way, as anyone reading this can tell, I am returned from a semi-vacation now. I've found, however, my time away from the computer quite good for my imaginative mind, so I'll be spending far less time around such endeavours, including being here on the forums, if I can conjure up the will to do so. I find it quite a captivating thing to spend my hours in front of the computer, yet it seems to enthrall and thence stifle my mind and imagination, at least in so far as writing goes, and that I wish to preserve beyond near all else. So essentially, if I am somewhat absent hereabouts, that is why. I will still be here, to be sure, simply not as frequently. However, I'll still make certain to finish with all the weaponry as I promised, though. I drew another few during holidays. By the way, how many does each person have total? Because I have seven for Crono, Frog, and Magus - so if seven is the total, that would make their weapons lists done. But I really would like to know, so as to know how many I should draw.

Uematsu has openly declared that O Fortuna was what OWA was based on.  Hats off to Carl Orff for that one.

Duel of the Fates is actually a Sanskrit translation of the Celtic poem "Cad Goddeu" or the Battle of the Trees, loosely translated.

Here's an English translation of the poem.  Several of them exist, though I'll be damned if I can find the original.

The tops of the beech tree have sprouted of late,
Are changed and renewed from their withered state.

When the beech prospers, though spells and litanies
The oak tops entangle, there is hope for trees.

I have plundered the fern, through all secrets I spy,
Old Math ap Mathonwy knew no more than I.

For with nine sorts of faculty God has gifted me,
I am fruit of fruits gathered from nine sorts of tree--

Plum, quince, whortle, mulberry, respberry, pear,
Black cherry and white, with the sorb in me share.

From my seat at Fefynedd, a city that is strong,
I watched the trees and green things hastening along.

Retreating from happiness they would fein be set
In forms of the chief letters of the alphabet.

Wayfarers wandered, warriors were dismayed
At renewal of conflicts such as Gwydion made;

Under the tongue root a fight most dread,
And another raging, behind, in the head.

The alders in the front line began the affray.
Willow and rowan-tree were tardy in array.

The holly, dark green, made a resolute stand;
He is armed with many spear-points wounding the hand.

With foot-beat of the swift oak heaven and earth rung;
"Stout Guardian of the Door", his name in every tongue.

Great was the gorse in battle, and the ivy at his prime;
The hazel was arbiter at this charmed time.

Uncouth and savage was the fir, cruel the ash tree--
Turns not aside a foot-breadth, straight at the heart runs he.

The birch, though very noble, armed himself but late:
A sign not of cowardice but of high estate.

The heath gave consolation to the toil-spent folk,
The long-enduring poplars in battle much broke.

Some of them were cast away on the field of fight
Because of holes torn in them by the enemy's might.

Very wrathful was the vine whose henchmen are the elms;
I exalt him mightily to rulers of realms.

Strong chieftains were the blackthorn with his ill fruit,
The unbeloved whitethorn who wears the same suit.

The swift-pursuing reed, the broom with his brood,
And the furse but ill-behaved until he is subdued.

The dower-scattering yew stood glum at the fight's fringe,
With the elder slow to burn amid fires that singe.

And the blessed wild apple laughing in pride
From the Gorchan of Maeldrew, by the rock side.

In shelter linger privet and woodbine,
Inexperienced in warfare, and the courtly pine.

But I, although slighted because I was not big,
Fought, trees, in your array on the field of Goddeu Brig.

I like that poem. I wonder if that was partially in Tolkien's mind when he wrote of the Ents and Huorns marching upon Isengard - I know that segment is based upon MacBeth, and Tolkien's thoughts at how Shakespeare didn't make as much use as he could of of the idea of a forest marching upon a castle as he could have (even as the idea of MacBeth being immortal to any man born of a woman gave root to the prophecy regarding the Witch King of Angmar, made by Glorfindel in the case of Tolkien.) But seeing as he knew Celtic myth and legend, I would think that this may well have influenced him.

Anyway... the sword names. I think it is high time that I made a revised list and, if time permits me, post some more pictures (which, indeed, I have done: the three requested initial weapons are now coloured and complete.)

So, here is the list of weaponry so far, with certain ones removed and added as I noted in the various posts. The ones with * have a drawn and coloured picture, and the ones with a ^ have a drawn picture, but as yet uncoloured one. Oh, and sorry if I'm being a little arbitrary seeming in choosing these. I'm picking what sounds like the best ones - though not to worry, they are not my own most often. But for example, while I really like FreeRadicl and assured it a place, I left out FuturShot.

Crono
Lead Sword*
Jade Hilt*
Shamshir*
Truesilver*
Geistrand
Arco Iris*
Ara Dei*

Marle
Yew Bow*
Ivory Bow*
Naveed
HarpString (or HeartStrng, though I am wary for the shortened word)
FairyQueen* (replacing the earlier FayArrow)
Fail-Not*
Apollon/FarShooter
Cherubim/Kerubim*
Alkanost

Lucca
Flintlock*
QuantaShot*
SnipeShot*
FreeRadicl

Robo
Strainer*
Death Grip

Glenn
ArmingSword
Quixote
PaxGuardia
Nauthiz* (my personal favourite in meaning of the Norse ones suggested earlier; I replaced DwarfSword with this)
Cyrus
Caliburn*
GiltSword
Clarent
Galatine
(Note that for Glenn I have 7 swords drawn; they simply are not yet connected with a name, though that can change shortly. Let's see... I have a Roman Gladius type that can fit with Pax Guardia, a longer Bastard Sword that can fit with Quixote, a standard-type middle-ages soldier sword that could be for Cyrus, and a sword that looks ancient Greek.)

Magus
Grigori^
Erebos^
Vanitas^
Totentanz*
Iscariot*
Legion*
Kronian*
Khadhulu

Schala
None, yet. What kind of weapons does she use, anyway?

So... comments, questions? If we are aiming for seven weapons, this is going very well: some have more than seven, even. The only ones still severely lacking are Robo and Lucca, and of course Schala, though as yet I am uncertain on what her weapon sort is. Now, for pictoral representation, I will post the newest ones I have coloured:

YEW BOW (BLACK BACKGROUND)

FLINTLOCK

LEAD SWORD

ARA DEI (EXTRA SHINE)

ARCO IRIS (WITH SHEATH)

TRUESILVER

UPDATE
I attempted to make a page in the appearance of a manual using some of Crono's weapons, and what follows is the result. Honestly, I think you need to have someone that actually knows something about graphic design to do this. But whatever, at least it shows something. Oh, and by the way, the background is the lines from the Compendium, only tinted red instead of blue. Like I said, this is really horrible, you'll have to get someone that knows these sorts of things to do it.

Daniel:  To answer your earlier question, regarding whether or not anyone was still reading the this thread... I must admit that I forgot about it!  Anyway, just wanted to say I'm honored that you decided to go with some of my suggestions.  That really kind of pleases me, so... thanks!  :D

BTW--I think it's probably been said enough already, but your artwork is awesome.  I really like the subtle rainbow hue on Arco Iris.  The only thing is, I wish these images could be utilized in a more concrete way.  Like in the game product itself.

This work just can't be allowed to go to waste.  I'd suggest a proper CE website, but this may not be a good idea, what with all of the C&D orders flying about of late.

ANYWAY--kudos to Daniel!

Ummm... truly? In truth, I do not think them all too good. You see, they are little more than sketches, drawn over with pen, and then coloured using PhotoDeluxe. Even in the colouring I get a tad sloppy since I have so many to do. But I darken the background, blur the edges, and shrink it to the size you see, and that removes many of the blemishes. As such they may look better than they truly are, for if I should put an hour into one such as these, I could make it look far better. As it is, each one is maybe five or ten minutes of drawing, and twenty of colouring. Anyway, it is nice that you like them, but I truly think they are not nearly so laudable.

Now, another set of six coloured ones. This makes all pictures save those I drew yesterday (and that was another six of them) coloured. Here they are:

Vanitas

Erebos

Grigori

Quixote

ArmingSword

(As yet unnamed sword for Glenn)

So? Comments? That's 27 total pictures.

Ok, I got here.

Those are some excellent drawings, Daniel. May I suggest simply "Gilded" for the golden sword?

Other suggestions:

Zonker8000 For Lucca =O

Beowulf for Glenn

Ryuraizan for Crono

Amulet for Schala(the one she gives Janus)

Atlas for Robo (was there already one like that?)

OMFGLENNETHSHOT for Marle. =)
