Coming Late November-December
« on: October 29, 2013, 03:14:59 am »
Chrono Apocalypse 7 and 8.

The 7th installment will be made throughout winter culminating in late December. More to follow? Probably.

I am wondering where I can host the old ones since they are no longer hosted by the previous place.

Any suggestions?

Youtube maybe, if they're just movies?  Get rid of the start menu and work from there?

In the interim, I took a stab at that Marle recolor you asked for. It's bad, but it's the best I could do.

Thanks for the praise. These sprites really more like a rough draft which someone with a better eye for detail would probably be better off finishing since I'm terrible with lighting and shading.

I'd love to do the rest of them for you, but quite frankly, drawing the loose hair for the other poses is outside my skill level. The only reason why I was able to make an attempt at the side ones was because I found an easy source (inspired by your words, by the way) to copy and paste, then edit into the shape I want. I'm a frankenspriter, not a real artist.

Now I see why Marle's hair is in a ponytail, because it's easier to show movement by reusing or sligltly altering frames when doing that anime hair-billowing visual cue.  If her hair is loose one can't just copy and paste from frame to frame. That's actual work.

By the way, I corrected a minor issue in the previous sprite, where the pixel under Marle's right arm went missing in one of the frames.  That's been fixed.

Edit: I decided to try one of the front frames anyway.  I know her hair should really be wider than that, and the hair is atrocious, but I'm just showing you where I am as far as my skills.

Dude it's actually great and the fact that someone is actually attempting is amazing.

I would really appreciate if you just made an attempt.

In all honesty I just need the last sprite (her facing down/towards you) and the hair needs to flow.

Here's hopefully, my final effort.

There were some severe pallete issues in the previous animations.  Now all of the sprites should not only have the same (or at least very, very) similar palletes, but they should also be 13 colors (including transparency, so really 12).  I was willing to go to 16 since this was just for an animation, but it could be done in 13 for all of them, and I was surprised.

I redid the hair slightly on the first frame because of the perspective and I wanted to give it a "fuller" feel to match what is shown on the side. This is far from the best animation in the world...but I hope it will do.

No, I will NOT be doing the backside.  Doing the front was barely in my scope, and as you can see, it's not done well.

Again, I have no problem with anyone swooping in and making improvements or even making alternate versions of these.

I think, given the deprecation of Adobe Flash, it'd be wise to use Flash CS6 or later and export these to CreateJS

Deprecation...like.... it's transitioning into being obsolete seeing as Adobe canned Flash for mobile and Linux.

Nangbaby, I think you're being too modest, your work is wonderful~

I don't want to turn this thread into about me, so I should just say thank you and move on...

...but what I did isn't really isn't "work."

There are real spriters out there.  Some of them used to frequent the Compendium.  I mean, person who made the Serge and Kid sprites, or even those spriters who put a hood on Magus -- those are spriters.  They can make multiple original sprites in the Chrono Trigger style.  Many actually draw freehand, then reduce what they see into the pixels.

The files above are just recolors/pallete-swaps, found in just about every single sprite comic (shameless plug) known to man, and the hair in the side view is just partially copied and pasted from a different source.  I did draw the hair from the front, and it looks objectively worse that the copied and pasted hair from the side.  Believe me, most of the work was figuring out how to make a solid red in clothes that worked with Chrono Trigger's style, and then I looked at the Captain's cape and used that as a template for the pallete of Marle's pants.

If I were a real spriter, I would have made a good running Schala sprite animation cycle for all three perspectives.

Flash 8 still works wonderfully as it is the peak of what was achieved for macromedia or adobe.
