What did Gaspar mean by this?

OLD MAN: One of you is close to
someone who needs help...
Find this person...fast.

Just as you touch the lives of every
life form you meet, so, too, will their
energy strengthen you.
Fail to live up to your potential, and
you will never win...
I am sorry that I must simply
witness the coming spectacle from
my vantage point here...

OK, my guess that he's talking Schala at the start, but seeing how there's no way to "find" her, that's pretty much pointless.  Thoughts?

EDIT: Going back to the text, I noticed that the next line in the programming is:
OLD MAN: That poor woman can finally
rest, now that the Black Omen is
gone.
She's reverted back to a human...
Now it is time for you to access the
Gate contained within that bucket!
You fight not just for yourselves, but
for all living things...
This is a battle between Lavos and
the entire world!

Now THAT line is obviously referring to Queen Zeal...  Was this what Gaspar meant in the first line?

Translation error; he meant to say "For matters regarding time eras, it is best to speak to someone from that era."

one question:
i remember that when i play all the way through all the sidequests, leaving the Black Omen for the last, right after finishing the Black Omen i go immediately to fight Lavos... i never was given the chance to stop by the end of time... did i do something wrong? is my memory betraying me?

I thought that referred to King Guardia and the Rainbowshell incident. I never had that saying until after I got the Rainbow shell Oo

No, cause this is the line that refers to the rainbow shell sidequest.

By process of elmination alone, it comes down to the Black Omen. It is the only sidequest that is not mdirectly mentioned by Gaspar as a evemt that will empower them. And it obviously does, considering it is one of the best places to gain exp.

By definition the Black Omen is not a sidequest.  And they're not hiding it from you because there's no way you can't know about it.  They force it in your face in the story.

Woolsey purposely changed the line, probably because he wanted to add a little element to the story himself.  Not wise.

I think it's obvious that his (Ted) purpose has to do w/the fact that the cart was limited and he was running on a time limit...It's easy to lay the blame on him and him alone, but he's not the only factor here...

The Black Omen is a sidequest, though not much of one considering it is blown in your face everytime u go flying in the Epoch. But it isnt in the DIRECT story. You can beat the game without doing the quest.

Well then technically you can beat the game the first time you go to The End Of Time. =P  So is everything after the End Of Time a sidequest too?  ...I didn't think so. ;)

Technically, in game+, you can end the game right after Marle disappears on her teleporter by going into the right one. So everything after THAT is merely a sidequest.

The reason it isn't a 'sidequest' is because it isn't to the side: it concerns the story itself, and lies in a direct path to Lavos. There are multiple other paths, and it can be circumvented, but it is not an extraneous loop on the story.
