Actually the name is gamefaqs character contest  . Thats a popularity contest with some of the most important characters of the history of videogames and of course crono its participating (magus and frog in too). Today battle is between Solid Snake and Manny Calavera. Theres no need for registration to vote so i sugest the everyone take a look and vote of course   .
I bet this year Crono gonna win the contest against mario.
What are your peoples opnion?

Probably not.  Crono isn't going to stand up to Mario; there are too many Mario fans.  Crono probably won't even stand up to Sonic.  Unless I'm mistaken, Link, Sephiroth, and Cloud are forbidden from competing, because they're the reigning champions of the past several years.

I agree with Hadriel, poor Crono.

Hey, Crono's cool, but we all grew up on Mario's lap, I guess.

To tell the truth i would vote mario against crono, but to the majority of the voters in the last contest crono IS a more popular character, yeah its incredible but he beat mario on last contest, proof here:

Mario beat crono 2 times on others contests thought, but always with a very SLIM margin.

The bottom line is that none of it matters. Mario is an international icon, and Crono is an amazing RPG character. Popularity contests are meaningless.

How do you say it, anyway? Mar-ee-oh or Mare-ee-oh? My friend says the latter, I say the former.

The former, since that is how Mario "himself" pronounces it. Anyone's guess what the Italian pronunciation truly is.

Simple. It's a game title. They're supposed to be catchy. What's catchier, Super Mar-ee-oh or Mare-ee-oh (Which sounds like Maria)?

I hate mario. Though, you think that will stop all the nintendo character maniacs out there... NOPE IN OUR DREAMS I never get why mario is so popular, I think it is a very generic character.

Yeah, honestly, this is the biggest "who cares" thread ever in the Compendium that I can recall...Like I've said before, and will undoubtably say again, the less GameFAQs stuff here, the better.

You guys should check out the I, Mario thread on OCR.  Realistically, the entire world of Mario is a giant acid trip, though I suppose to two Italian-American plumbers from Brooklyn, it'd be nothing they couldn't handle; New York City does have a fairly high crime rate, one of the highest in America.  There are a great deal of Italian-Americans in NYC, as if anyone needed a reminder.  However, Mario could just as easily have been Jewish, or Chinese.

It's easy to explain why Mario and Luigi were painted as Americans; Japanese culture has something of a fascination with all things American, and New York City stands as an emblem of all those things; a prime cause of 9/11/2001.  But why the Italian choice?

Come to think of it, what is with the frequency of superheroes that come from NYC?  I can name several of them right off the top of my head:

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Manhattan Clan of Gargoyles (the main cast of Gargoyles)
Peter Parker aka Spider-Man
Daredevil
The Mario Brothers
Several members of the X-Men, as Xavier's school is in upstate New York, as well as other DC and Marvel characters (though if it makes Daniel feel any better, Wolverine is Canadian.)

Seriously, wtf?  My dad's a Jewish import from the Bronx, and he doesn't have any superpowers...though actually, he does rather look like a middle-aged Mario, whereas if I lost a few pounds I'd be the spitting image of Squall.

If Jews would of had superpowers, I woulden't be an Arab-hater for the simple reason the arabs would of been dead about twenty years prior to me birth. Plus I'd have an oh so happier childhood. Maybe those bastards from elementry school would have superpowers, but at least I could fight back! :D[/quote]
