Melchior won't be as big as it's looking.  He'll give Crono a sword to replace the wood one, and then be off on his merry little way.  When Crono bumps into Marle, she'll get up and ask if he's okay, and then notice his black eye and freak out, thinking she did it.

More edits made to the script.

I was thinking about a lot of the comedy ideas earlier today...  My thought is we should probably keep track of them, and then just unload 'em all on Dalton later on.  Dalton is just a glutton for punishment with the way he acts, the way he interacts with the game itself ("No, no!  Stop the music!").  So who's up for that?  Should we just use all our overly-corny jokes on Dalton?

Aaaaaaand nobody replying to that probably means it's a bad idea.

I'm still thinking about that Lavos intro we talked about...  Speaking of which, am I the only one who thought Lavos' scream/roar was a little stupid?  I thought it was weird that it would be so high-pitched.  Did you guys think the same thing?  And if so, what say we come up with a better roaring sound for Lavos?  8)

Sorry, my internet access has been sporadic since I moved into a house a week ago. :(

My suggestion would be to keep the Lavos idea in the back of our minds, but keep moving forward. I don't think we've hit on anything quite yet that would make it worth putting in, but maybe we will soon.

We should keep track of unused comedic ideas (and maybe any ideas) so that we have them later in the series' development. But yeah, Dalton is definitely an easy target.

And now for a few script ideas:

- I was thinking that, since Crono is becoming unmute, we make his first words symbolic. Maybe "What time is it?"
- I also had a thought for the "ring-the-bell" scene. Crono would go first and ring it easily. Marle would go next and get a low score, perhaps equivalent to the rating "princess" . She would then get mad, try again, and ring the bell. (This does not have to be a very long scene; maybe it could be part of a montage of Millennial Fair happenings.)
- Expanding on Lucca's poor people skills (like when she meets Frog) could be another source of comedic relief, one that could continue throughout the series. For example, in the Gato scene Crono could say "Is this Lucca's robot trainer?", Gato would then sing, and Crono would say "Yeah, definitely Lucca's" or something like that.

Thoughts?

Welcome back, Luminaire. :)  I LOVE those ideas!

"Yep, definitely Lucca's."

*Crono hits the thing, bell rings*

Merchant: Hey, you got the "He-Man" rating!  Good job!

*Marle hits the thing*

Merchant: What are you, a princess?!  That was pathetic!

*Marle growls and hits it again, the bell rings*

Merchant:

Also, we're getting to the point that we really need auditioners...  It's kinda bugging me that I'm not getting any submissions. :?

In terms of a Lavos intro, what if we did an intro that was almost LotR-ish?  Did anyone see a post of mine somewhere around here that talked about how maybe Lavos was a creature who found the Frozen Flame as one finds a treasure, and it possessed/corrupted him?  That doesn't necessarily have to be true, but we might be able to expand on that a bit...

I'm kinda imagining an intro narrated by a woman (who will later be revealed to be Schala, similar to LotR's intro with Galadriel) telling this like a twisted bedtime story...  She'd be telling about a legend of a great and powerful artifact called the Frozen Flame, and how it could endow its bearer with godlike power.  It was found by a creature who sought to go see other worlds (this would be Lavos, albeit in a much less monster-looking form).  This desire would be perfect for the Flame to achieve its own goals, which centered around its hatred for all life.  Granting the creature power beyond compare, the Flame began its conquest, pouring that hate and evil into the creature's heart.  That creature got its wish to see other places in the universe...while conquering them as well.  Soon it forgot its own desires as the Flame ever darkened the creature's heart.  (We may see glimpses of Lavos' Core, slowly turning a little uglier, becoming just a little more reminiscent of the Lavos Core we would recognize.)  Of course, eventually, at some tragic point in time, that creature will have conquered the other worlds in its path, and it -- and the Frozen Flame -- will come here.

At this point, I'm imagining a very specific shot (definitely cutscene if we manage to do that stuff) of the Lavos Core's hands holding the Frozen Flame and setting it on some sort of twisted pedestal.  (This would be inside the Lavos Body, so you can imagine the background.)  The camera zooms out from the hands as Lavos turns toward the camera and assumes that same pose Darth Vader had after Palpatine told him Padme had died...  (When he screamed "Nooooooo")  Lavos basically takes that pose and roars...  A deeeeeeep, horrible, disturbing, distorted roar as the camera pulls back FAST.  The camera literally ZOOMS out for about 1.5 seconds going through the Lavos Body, and the camera finally comes out of the mouth and shows a dramatic view of the full Lavos.  As the camera exits the mouth, the roar morphs into the more recognizable, trademark Lavos roar.  Fade to black, cut to Crono's house.

What do you guys think of that idea?  I know it ain't exactly the sword in Lavos' @$$, but it might suffice and would certainly be dramatic.  I REALLY want feedback on this.  Let me know your thoughts. :)

If that item theme is from the n64 (I can't remember if you said OoT or not), you can get it from http://www.halleyscometsoftware.com/usf/ . Just download 64th note, the OoT pack, and play it, while having Audacity recording "What u hear" in the background. Of course, I use Creative, so that option might not be available. But you should be able to take it from here.

Oh, for Crono getting the sword and playing the Zelda "you got an item" theme?  I think we ditched that idea already, Z.

Well, I'm for your Lavos idea, Jake, as long as it doesn't introduce major plot holes (not that Chrono Cross doesn't have any plot holes already  ). I especially like the idea of having Schala do some opening narration.

I dunno if we should be introducing new ideas, though... I feel like introducing the Frozen Flame as having been the one to corrupt Lavos, rather than the Frozen Flame as having been a shard off of Lavos, puts too much emphasis on the Flame, when I think it was merely meant to be a piece of Lavos' shell that fell off during the impact

So are we basically straying from the main storyline and tweaking things a bit. So we have the Lavos the Dark Lord things and he finds the FF and stuff. We should do that like a Prologue. With a lovely evil laugh at the end, the screen zooming in on the FF then the screen fading to black.

Well yeah, it would be straying a bit, and I know it would draw a lot of criticism, so maybe it's not such a good idea...

Ack, I need to finish this chapter's script!

OK, made a small addition to the script in the first post.  Let me know what you think, and feel free to write how the rest will go.  I'm tired...  *yawn*  I'll get to it later. :)

How about, if we feel it necessary, we release that FF stuff (which I'm still opposed to, but if you want it) after the series ends as a prequel

Eh, I dunno...  The FF stuff would probably draw a lot of criticism, but we might still find a way to work in the Lavos legend and that funky roar and stuff, maybe in a trailer or something.  Who knows...
