Meh...

Ocean Palace gates=Lavos

Red Gate=Entity

Magus' Castle gate=accident and/or Lavos (I suppose I could understand an Entity arguement here though...)

Others=Entity

No, Ocean Palace + Magus' Summoning = Lavos

Lavos has limited power over time, he does make time portals, not gates.  Gates exist until the entity closes them, Lavos's time portals are one time use.

Same difference really...I mean, the Entity opens its gates for a certain amount of time (through the game) and they can be accessed, while Lavos' gates are opened for a certain amount of time (when Lavos makes 'em)...I think they're basically the same thing and/or follow the same principles...mostly...except for the Magus' Castle one...but that one's whakky.

Ocean Palace Gates=Lavos + the MM (too much power causes the Gates to appear)
Red Gate=Entity based on Lucca's determination to save her mother

Magus' Castle Gate=Lavos and Magus and Crono and gang (once again, too much power, though i will echo V_T's words here as well because it very well could have been the Entity)

All Other Gates=Entity (obviously)

I dunno if I'd say "Lucca's determination"...I mean, basically Lucca was just thinking about it because of what they were talking about in the 400 Year Reunion...The Red Gate seemed more like the Entity saying, "Here, now you can be like me! You too can change the past! Yippy! ^_^ Now go kill that parasitic bastard because you love me now!"

With that exact facial expression too

Love the joke.

Maybe I should have elaborated a bit more on the Lucca part. When I say determination, I mean, surely she would have rememberd that horrible experience with her mother becoming paralyzed and her not beeing able to anything. Now if u were her, wouldn't u want to change the past when u found out u could time travel? She wouldve been thinking about it all the time across the journey. And the Entity just chose that moment to give her the chance. So really, she was 'crying' out to the Entity to give her the chance, and the Entity heard and gave her the chance. Now, if Lucca hadnt given it a second thought after she learnt of Time Travel, the Entity probably wouldn't have made the Gate.

I always took it that Lucca was caught by surprise when Marle asked her that question because it stirred up old memories that she'd rather have forgotten...

Yes well, in-game moments can screw up good theories.

Either that or maybe she just hadnt' been thinking of her mother for a while, and Marle stirred her memories up and Lucca began to think, maybe she had a nightmare of her mother before waking up in the forest, then the Entity did its part and made the Gate.

Maybe the gate woke her up...They make a bit of noise...Or maybe the Entity woke her up because it was making a freakin gate just for her after all.

V_T, by saying this, you are basically implying that the Entity wanted/needed Lucca to save her mother. I see no reason behind this in the long run, which is why i think it was Lucca's choice. Though she was choosing sub-conciously (which was the nightmare or watever).

I think the point was to give Lucca a chance because the entity saw how caring she was and worked so hard to make sure that machines wouldn't turn on anyone else.
