It was NOT supposed to be Chrono Trigger 2.  Its an entirely different game, just made by the same people.  Lucca is in the game, but mostly just as an Easter Egg.

The extremely short version is you are a mission to kill/rescue God.  Oh, and its only part five of a larger, unfinished tale, though some people are of the opinion that the PS2 game Xenosaga is a retelling of the Xenogears story.

Other than the Battles system in Cross being loosely based on the one in Xenogears (very loosely at that) there is no connection between the two, save for the Square logo on the cover.

Xenogears resembles chrono trigger in like no ways at all.  It's really not even a good enough game to even be in the same sentence as Chrono Trigger.  Besides, the CT gang could take on the cast of Xenogears any day.

You know, every time someone argues that ‘X’ character from ‘Y’ game could beat any other character form any other game, God kills a cat-girl.  Wont someone please think of the cat-girls????  

Besides, as much as I like CT,  Id could take out the entire cast.  Single handily, including Magus.  Then hop in the Weltall and take out Lavos just for general purpose.

I had always thought that the true reason Lavos was able to have been destroyed by them was because of all the spiritual power that they had gained from their adventure, and all the people they met. Gaspar was on something like that. It could be like the whole Voldemort/Harry situation. Harry touching Professor Quiggle made him die because Harry's Mom's love was with him, and destroyed Quiggle beacuse he was evil, greedy etc.
