Instead of trying to figure out how long did Crono's & co. quest take I'd say this:

The duration of the quest depends on the players actions. lol, u see, if i spend 3 hours just walking back and forth around the map and then rest 200 times it certainly makes the amount of time the quest takes pretty big, and sum1 who just play through doin' the necessary stuff the fastest possible has a much faster journey.

U cant really estimate how long did the quest take for there isn't any fact nor a theory created through analysis of facts that could say it... It's something that should be relative to each player... BUT if I'd go and try to make a general guess as every1 else I think the 1 year thing feels more likely...

Now, about Crono working... Damn I don't think so... He just looks like too much of a vagabond to be actually a worker kind... I mean, what kinda worker guy would walk around with that kinda hair and with a wooden sword in hands... He's just a freaking vagabond

By that logic, we can't say Crono is his canon name.

Bullcrap. That's quiter talk. If we thought like that, this board wouldn't exist. Also, one year is excessive. You're underestimating the length of a year.

Pfft. Like that means jack diddly. Crono lives in a Monarch state. For all we know, they might work by the fuedal system still. And Crono's an Akira Toryama character. That kind of hair is normal by those standards.

oh my gawd

that was supposed to be a satirical post ( mostly the part about crono)

and about the quest's duration part it isn't registered as a fact nor are there facts which ppl can use to create a [nearly] correct answer... but, if u pay attention, u can get plenty of "official" sources that can make u believe (not to say that they afirm) that Crono's name is actually Crono, no matter if u named him Fookt or Pwnt in ur snes (or pc)... and not only Crono, but all other characters as well.

and geez, c'mon man... it was just a (supposedly) "satirical" post, which (supposedly) should "lighten" the heavy discussion about a pretty maleable and dependable matter of the game

u see, i'm a really big appreciator of the chrono series, as well as a big appreciator of toriyama's works, i wasn't critycizing the game or toriyama's drawing style, for i love both, it was just... geez... sumthin (supposedly, again) close to a "joke" - -"

about the monarch state coment, thats hardly true... they actually live in an underwater comunist state of absolute chaos, imho (omfg! a feudal state with a trial system, a full monetary system and a capitalist economy! [yeah, many stores, u go and buy ur stuff in the one with better prices, commercial competition, lotsa money coming and going, all those capitalist stuff] that's wierd! i truely believe that my underwater crap theory is more apropriated, not to say logical, mostly by the comunism part)

oh, oh! and before i forget, if u read my post again i said that it FELT like a year, not logically speaking, it was just a... feeling y'know? like when u drink too much and get a feeling that ur gonna throw up? do u understand what im saying? o.o

good XD

Actually, the official sources will lead you to believe that his name is Chrono...8)

oh... is that so? then, i'm sorry, my bad ¬¬" i think that what u meant is that the official sources may lead u to believe that Crono is an adaptation of what (if there was enough space) should have been Chrono... but what i meant was that in official game guides, enterviews and all this non-substantial stuff the freaking punk is (probably incorrectly) said to be named Crono... damn those official crap ¬¬"

Erm, no.
Crono's name in the jap version is Kurono. There's no way one could translate Kurono to something that isn't Crono.

I'd bet my education that Chrono was thought up first and then transcribed using Japanese characters into Kurono.  (Of course, this is not to say that, given space for six or more characters, the developers would have chosen to call Crono Chrono in the English version.) Clearly it is meaningless to transcribe Kurono back into English if we already know the English word that was the source of Kurono in the first place!

Digression: I read a while back that the most sophisticated translation program created to date was given the task of translating the English phrase "Out of sight, out of mind" into several other languages and then back into English.  The result?  "Blind insanity."

Edit: Clarity

Never stated otherwise. This won't make his name be Chrono though. You realize that Crono is a real word, right?

I did not imply you stated otherwise.  I merely had to include that first sentence so that my following sentence (not the parenthetical one) would be less prone to rebuttal.  Lot of good that did, eh?

And, no, Crono is not a real word. And technically, neither is chrono: it's a prefix.

It doesn't have much to do with anything.  Hence my calling it a digression.

Kurono is katakana (sp?)...BUT as you'll notice...The GAME is called (in katakana) Kurono Toriga. Crono's name? Also Kurono. I figure that the title is more the proper translation than the name which could have been cut down because of cart space limitations...I mean, are you gonna cut the Title of the game to Crono Trigger or the name of the main character?

Well DUH! That's why we debate about it.

Wasn't funny, and believe me, I should know about being unfunny.

Wow. Just stop and read what you're saying. >< And their economy is hardly capitalist. Every nation has ONE goddamn store. Regardless, take a look at Britain. It has a monetary system, capitalism, etc. Your theory is a sack that doesn't even make sense within it's own context.
