Hard to beleive...

...That Ayla named Lavos. If you remember, when Azala is about to die, Lavos is seen coming down towards earth. Ayla looks up and says, " La-vos.". Marle says what and Ayla says," La Aylas word for big and Vos word for fire.". Kinda hard to believe Lavos was named by a cave women, huh?

That's actually funny when you think about it...

Then again, Ayla really didn't name it, but more so, her people. If La and Vos are the meaning of big and fire for her people, the word would have traveled down through history...

Since Ayla and her people would obviously be the root for most language in the CT world, no, no it's not that hard to believe...

Yup, But you'd think that the name would change or something. And atleast if the word was carried down, then people in 1000AD should atleast know something about it.

Etymologically, yes. It is ridiculous to think that any word could survive unchanged for 65 million years. However, I do not disparage Chrono Trigger for this, because instead of taking the idea literally--in which case it would be quite a silly oversimplification indeed, to say that the word would survive unmolested for 65 million years--I take it as a symbol that humanity's relationship with Lavos, and to some extent our awareness of and susceptibility to Lavos, goes all the way back to the very beginning. It enforces the thematic idea that Lavos has been a corruptive influence from the moment we first saw it shooting in the sky.

And by the way, just a minor note: on the La=big and Vos=fire bit, it's the other way around...  She actually said La=fire and Vos=big.

</nitpicking> ;)

It would make sense because Ayla's generation was the first exposed to Lavos, so she names it and it gets passed down generation to generation.

Whoops, I knew I screwed it up...anyways, you guys are right. Why didn't it change? How can one word remain unchqanged for millions and millions of years? I mean, even our simple word, 'think' has been changed. It was, at once I beleive, 'Thunk' (I'm just screwing around, lol)

It could be because Chrono World is (or at least seems) smaller and there aren't as many cultures...

edit: Latin's a dead language and it's still used, prominantly by scientists...so I don't see how one word surviving is that big a deal...

What? Now thats stupid! It sounds more realistic as "Big Fire", not "Fire Big". Not even Ayla would speak that stupid.

Leah did sound stupid. She named her daughter Ayla (Leah backward).

I wouldn't be on the doubting end of the Ayla's stupidity stick myself, I mean, not just because she makes a couple good speaches anyhow...speech? Why do neither of those look right to me? Whatever...
