Favorite Music?
« on: March 30, 2018, 07:12:45 pm »
So I'm curious what everyone's favorite tracks are from CT/CC. My absolute favorite is "Yearnings of the Wind," but some of my other favs from CT include: "Magus Confronted," "Guardia Castle-Pride and Glory" and of course, the CT Theme. From CC I love "Optimism" and "Times grasslands- Another World." There are others that I enjoy of course, but those are my favs. What are yours?

Gah, tough to decide...

There are a few that really make me feel, y'know? That call of childhood innocence and nostalgia and yearnings for a simpler time in my life. Chrono Trigger ties very heavily into my childhood. I obsessed about it, even after all of my friends moved on to other things. ((I had notebooks filled with sequel ideas and stories and unrealized dreams of more to the Chronoverse. This lasted into high school and even college -- to this day I have about a 70+ page document detailing a potential sequel storyline, break it down scene by scene and room by room). Frankly, it sucked, but man, I poured hundreds of hours into fantasizing about Chrono Trigger sequels.

So a few of those songs that pull at my heart strings and make me feel alive like I was back then...

Morning Glow (there's something about this song... I still think of it when I get up early in the morning and hear birds)

Peaceful Days (I long for the idyllic lifestyle this song represents)

Light of Silence (special shoutout to this tune -- I think this is one of the most underrated songs of the entire series -- it is mystery incarnate, if you ask me)

Robo's Theme (so catchy, despite being so close to ol' Rick boy -- very upbeat and makes me happy)

Singing Mountain (despite being unreleased, I remember finding the midi of this and the other unreleased songs in 1996 or 1997, and I kept it on repeat for *hours*)

Sealed Door (just a golden tune that combines intrigue and mystery within the whole confines of the Zealian story archetype)

and of course...

Epilogue - To My Dear Friends with Outskirts of Time (a fitting finale; both to bittersweet memories and pushing me onward to the new future)

That's how "Yearnings of the Wind" is for me. Sooooo nostalgic. See for me, and I'm not at all trying to be a downer here but it's how things were for me... Chrono Trigger was one of the only good things about my childhood. I guess that's why I love it so much, because it was one of the few things that brought me happiness during that time. And I relive that happiness anytime I hear the music, play the game, work on my fanfic, etc. It makes me truly happy. :)

Oh and I love "Singing Mountain" too! I first heard it on the DS version and I think what they chose it for suits the piece perfectly. That song makes me think of icicles. LOL

Oddly, some of my favorite upbeat tracks "The Chrono Trigger Theme" and "Magus Confronted" I find to be very empowering. "Guardia Castle-Pride and Glory" also makes me feel this way. I have all of those in my workout playlist.

I'm always wishing I'd found this place sooner. It's so nice to be surrounded with fellow Chrono fans!

You should have seen this place around 2003-2009. It was highly active. So much theorizing and analysis and conversation around the nuances of Chrono Trigger.

Plus, Kajar Labs had a multitude fan projects (too many to ever get off the ground, tbh), but the sense of community was awesome. You can see some of them in the Abandoned Games section of the Labs. There are even more that aren't listed, as some fan projects went up in flames after the Cease and Desist of Kajar Labs and were moved to other forums.

Chrono Trigger DS caused a good spark of activity. Another Chrono game or project or something similar could do the same.

Unfortunately, this is a 23-year old game, so I think the golden era has passed... Still, nothing wrong with holding on and, if nothing else, keeping our friendships and the community going. Chrono Trigger is just the focal point, the relationships exist regardless. I've met some really cool people here! I've even met a few of them in real life!

I wish I would have been here. I know they say better late than never but I would have LOVED being here when it was hoppin'! I don't know anyone in real life who love Chrono Trigger like I do, but at least I have a husband now who listens to my babbling. LOL

I know what you mean about the golden era more than likly has passed, but I will hold out hope until the day I die for a new Chrono game. And when I'm dead I'll haunt Square to make one. Ha ha!! I would love to meet some Chrono Fans in real life, but I don't think anyone is close to me, I'm in south Florida. But hey, if anyone is vacationing, let me know! :)

Bahaha!

I hear ya. I'm married with kids now and my wife is not a gamer. At all. She tolerates my video game ramblings from time to time, but it's definitely not her forte.

In actuality, now that I'm an adult I don't get to geek out with others that much, let alone geek out about Chrono Trigger. I play D&D with a group and even though most of them play video games, none of them have played Chrono Trigger. I've toyed with the idea of making a character a Chrono Trigger character (like a Frog-like Mogogol character or an elvish sorcerer akin to Magus).

I hadn't seen or heard this... This is incredible. His glasses make the costume. And when they talking about glitching out he just shakes and the glasses vibrate on the edge of his nose, bahaha....

I totally you were gonna go with the OG of Robo's Theme with Lyrics:

Oh man, now I have to transcribe it! Challenge accepted.

There's one line I cannot figure out for the life of me.

Though I am made of titanium,
I still <can't understand>... human like you (?)
Covered in tin and six other twins
I left them and came with you!

I might not be rude like my brothers, I know
but my gears will last forever.
I'm happy to be in your party,
Aren't you?

Robots can be made for evil or good
Please don't reprogram me.
My memories and thoughts are all I have left
Am I malfunctioning?

In twenty-three hundred A.D.
I was left to study the humans.
Then you came along and I played this song
For you.

R-6-6-Y -- that is my name
But you can call me anything.
Just leave me here, I'll tend to this place
I'm good at gardening.

So Fiona and me, we planted the trees
and you went into the future.
Just look and see, this forest I made
For you.

Though I am made of titanium,
I still <can't understand>... human like you (?)
Won't you pick me instead of that frog,
I can do healing, too.

Moving this back on topic, I enjoyed most of the soundtrack, but there is only on track in particular that stood out to me when I was young.

Schala's Theme - It was my second time renting Chrono Trigger. It was around midnight and I should have been in bed hours ago, but I finally managed to get past the Magus fight. I continued past the second trip to prehistory and set my first steps in Zeal. The moment I heard this song was the moment I fell in love, not just with the character, but the series as a whole.

I still go back and listen to it from time to time.

I'm definitely going to go back and listen to both of those!! I'm at work right now, so I can't yet. LOL

Ooooooo I like Schala's Theme too! I remember the first time I saw Zeal and I was in awe. My favorite time period is 600 AD though. I can't put my finger on why, just always has been.

In Chrono Trigger, "Silent Light" was my go-to favorite for many years if anyone asked. I still think it's probably the most underrated piece on the soundtrack. "Millennial Fair" is an all-around awesome song. In more recent years, "Manoria Cathedral" has risen in my estimation, because despite its simplicity it's incredibly evocative. (I think it's even the music that plays when the Ocean Palace is on fire and Schala is sending everyone away, but I could be wrong about that.) "Corridors of Time" is the soundtrack's hit single and I love it too, and "Gato's Theme" is just so darn fun. It's hard to pick just one!

In Chrono Cross (probably one of the most underrated video game soundtracks of all time), it has to be "Home Termina," just because that's such a go-to festival song for me. To this day I'll put it on when I'm feeling festive. And "Another Termina," which sounds even more festive, may well be my favorite. But there are so many awesome pieces in this soundtrack, big and small.

I agree with everything that's been said.

Manoria Cathedral was also used to great effect in Masamune's cave on Denadoro Mtns, as well as the Sun Palace and Sun Keep.

also, Secret of the Forest is one of my personal favorites. the subtlety, the way it builds up, the way it was mysterious without being overtly foreboding... another underrated song. I appreciate that they used it in the Blue Pyramid area, but I still think it's underused.

So I downloaded a Chrono Cross music album off of iTunes. I was listening to it recently when I realized it didn't have one of my favorite tunes from Chrono Cross: The music from the battle with Miguel. I absolutely LOVE this track. Combined with seeing Leene Square and Nadia's Bell in ruins, I find the music to be so HAUNTING. I've needed to just listen to it so I found the Miguel battle on YouTube. If someone knows the name of this track and where I can get it, I would be eternally grateful! I LOVE this music so much.
