NP strongly suggests Chrono Trigger Revolution download
« on: August 31, 2005, 11:32:31 am »
In the October 2005 issue, Nintendo Power strongly suggested that the next generation console "Revolution" will support the download of Chrono Trigger. The implication comes at the end of an article about old games in which the writer speculated about new gamers receiving a chance to play the classics through the Revolution. Let us hope this almost official word signals a definite inclusion; here's to the long life of a classic; let's hope that it inspires more entries in the Chrono series to come!

In the October 2005 issue, Nintendo Power confirmed that the next generation console "Revolution" will support the download of Chrono Trigger. Whether it would was previously in question due to Square Enix's license on the game, but it seems the two are seeing eye to eye and Lavos will be crashing onto the new system in due time. Here's to the long life of a classic; let's hope that it inspires more entries in the Chrono series to come!

This has got to be their best idea ever...make every old game possible available on the Revolution. But they have to follow that up with a new generation of appealing games; you can't live off a reputation forever...unless you're Lord J, Esquire.

The good thing is that all first party games have been confirmed for free! I felt much joy when I heard this, lol. The only thing is that third party games will be up to the company to put a price on, hopefully they feel that they should be free as well!

Awesome!

There still isn't any news of when the Revolution is going to be released, is there?

Also, what other games are confirmed?

Anyone read a rumor a while ago that Square was going to port CT to the DS? That would be cool, though not as much as this.

This is how Nintendo is celebrating Chrono Trigger's 10th, I guess.

It's like giving a car to a 16 year old!

You know, if CT is going to get on Revolution, I should go sell my cart for the $70 is going for now.  Its not gonna be worth hardly anything if its on Revolution.

I've always wanted to ask...what's the J stand for? And what exactly does Esquire mean (I've wanted to know since I first watched Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure)?

A used car...that everyone's pretty much already driven...including that 16-year-old...but it still runs great!

Anyways...as good news as this would be, if it even were to come out for free, which, like LionheartAce said, since it's third-party might not happen, I dunno how big of an impact it'll have...I mean, I know there's some Nintendo-only fans that may be rejoicing about it...But pretty much anyone who's wanted to play CT has done so in several generations: SNES, PSX, & tride & true emulation...but w/e, I hope new people (SMART people, that is) get to play it and that this information gets to the higher ups...

I'm not going to sell it. What happens if it turns about to be like the PSX version (excessive load times)?

Well, yeah, as has been said in this thread, only first party (Nintendo duh-uh) games will be free...Any others will require payments deals of some kind...

The J is for Josh. "Esquire" is a low-ranking honorific that used to refer to refer to people who ranked just below a knight and nowadays refers to lawyers; you can check Dictionary.com for the particulars. When I first went on the Internet almost ten years ago, I thought the "Esq." at the end of people's names was delightfully fancy, and so I named my AOL account Lord J Esq.

My username is a testament to vainglory and narcissism. =)

No they haven't. While initially this seemed the case, later Miyamoto refuted this and said there would be a small charge involved - which could either be pay-per-game or pay a small fee to download as much as you want. Either way, it won't be free.
