The whole reason Magus is a badass is because he loved Schala. When Lavos took away everything he loved (Schala) and landed him in harsh era, Lavos left him with nothing but hate and a thirst for vengence. The fact that he was able to love is what makes his character so compelling and real. Adopting a Machiavellian aditude  he heartlessly kills in order kill Lavos (though Crono shows that there was a more un-evil way to the same goal). He exists simply for hate and perhaps becomes so powerful because he is angry at how helpless he was when he was small and lost everything. In all senses of the word Magus is not a wuss, if you can label Magus a wuss, then every character in the game, save perhaps Lavos and the Mother Brain computer (because they have no emotions and kill just simply because they think they should) are wusses. If a wuss like Crono then could save the planet from an incredibly powerful monster, then perhaps being a wuss in your definition of the word is a good thing. A wuss would only be concerned with his/her own welfare without a thought to the welfare of others, cowering in a corner while others are hurt. It is because Magus is concerned not with his own welfare (which would be preserved without trying to kill Lavos) and is instead bent on avenging his sister and his lost life that makes him the opposite of a wuss.

Summarily, I hold that given the ugly world he was thrown in to and the Elysium he once knew, he had little motivation against the idea of searching for his lost sister, or seeking revenge.

Which is precisely my point.

...Ever since Lavos's time portal stranded me in the Middle Ages...I have waited to even the score.

That's basically the reason Magus gives you for wanting to go after Lavos. Everything else is implied. He's obviously an angry man who doesn't like to be fucked w/and we know he doesn't like surprises.

Although, to back up the point that he's doing it all for Schala...I'd say that one of his main reasons for going after Lavos is as a kind of redemption, either to himself, or more likely, to Schala, for the things he's done in his life so far.

That's all I needed to know that Magus was a bad-ass with a plan.

Congratulations V-Translanka, you do understand the minds of the darkly misunderstand. That was the explanation I needed.

But anyways, the only people I know w/o a fact in RPG history who are "wusses" are 1) Zell (FFVIII) and 2) Edward (FFIV).

Minor FFVIII spoilers. Come on, give Zell some credit.  He may have begun as a chicken-wuss, but he grew up and went on to lead the gang while Squall and Rinoa were in space. As for the "spoony bard," Edward makes Pierre look like Hulk Hogan.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *phew* So true, so true!

'Nuff!

...

Well, I guess this thread has finally come to a conclusion!

...

Ehh, we can start a new debate.

Sneff > Magus.

Debate! XD

(Yeah, I'm joking in that last statement there.
Now, go get yourself some cookies).

Who are you talking to?

No, Magus is not emo, Magus is gothic.

Magus isn't gothic in the sense of modern gothic, in which the style consists of dressing in black, wearing make-up, chains, and studded clothing, but gothic in the sense that he has medieval style.

Or, haven't you actually seen Magus's castle, with all of its splendid gothic architecture?

Today's goths aren't REAL goths. People back in gothic times didn't dress like how "goths" do.

Lol, and the Visi Goths. Magus is not a goth. Goths don't wear purple, have red eyes, blue hair >.> Goths are purely black and white. But I guess I can agree on the medieval Goth type, as in the barbarians.

I think it's safe to say that he isn't completely 'goth' in any sense that we may know it (hey, he's not in our world, right?), but he's, if nothing else, goth-inspired.

Oh, and I think Exodus was quoting me...just...not using the quote tags...>_>

I don't think Magus belongs to any dark, broody clique. He's too badass. He'd like, a splode any clique he's put in except like....the Magus clique.

God dammit, re-read my statements.

Quote from: Exodus
Nah, not emo.

He's not suicidal.

I guess you could say he's a legitimate goth.

Quote from: V_Translanka

Firstly, let's get "emo" outta the way...They're basically the goths that weren't hardcore enough to be goths...They cry a lot (which of course, ruins their makeup), sit in the corner, shut off the lights (or dim them if they're feelin' extra emo), and listen to Dashboard Confessional. Magus is not emo.

Clearly, he's trying to refute something that nobody is claiming.

I'm not about to hop into a fight with you people, so drop it.
