The Real Chrono Dream Team
« on: September 09, 2005, 07:00:30 pm »
I just finished another notch on my To-Do List, and it's resulted in a nice crossexamination. Check the bottom of

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Games

The real Dream Team are:

# Masato Kato (Scenario Writer, Director)
# Yasunori Mitsuda (Music Composition & Arrangement)
# Yasuyuki Honne (Art Direction)
# Minoru Akao (Sound Programming)
# Hiroki Chiba (Event Planning)
# Kyoko Yamashita (Public Relations, Localization)

These people alone could head the various areas of game development if Break were made, and reap something REALLY Chrono! I hope they're all present if a new game is made. Anyway, I suppose we can make a big hullabaloo about these people being the real team.

Mitsuda and Kato.
Have they made any other games, becuase I really give them a lot of credit for their individual creativity.

What exactly does an event planner do?

Xenogears. Well, and Kirite. But that isn't a game.

I'd imagine kinda like a video game choregrapher.

They did Xenogears together. Separately, Kato also worked on FFVII, FFXI, Baten Kaitos, and he is doing Children of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 4. Mitsuda worked on FFV, Secret of Mana, Romancing SaGa 2, Front Mission, Mario Party, Xenosaga Episode I and probably other stuff.

Hmm... I'll probably get reamed for this, but I have to say it.

Xenogears is the best PS1 RPG out there. It's better than Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VII/VIII/IX, Parasite Eve 1 & 2, and whatever else came out for PS1 that resembled an RPG, except MAYBE Lunar: SSSC.

*cough*

Back on-topic: Haven't most of the CDT quit Squeenix?

Mitsuda did Mario Party 2 (a little), Bomberman 64, and Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 as well.

Kato didn't work on any FFs. If he did, I haven't seen him in any of the credits of any of them and I can't find him in any of them online.

Xenogears is amazing...but not that great. It's story and music are good, but everything else?

...it's incomplete. If they don't consider it incomplete, then it's poorly made. There's a reason Tetsuya Takahashi is "redoing" the Xeno games, not creating the prequels to Xenogears.

EDIT: Well, unless Wikipedia is making things up, apparently Chrono is right. Kato did work on FF7 and FFXI. 7 is understandable...but what the hell would he do with FFXI? He was probably in the office for five minutes.

Actually, it's the other way round. It's for FF7 that Kato stayed for "five minutes" (more or less  ), he only orchestrated some few scenes, like Cloud and Tifa's trip inside Cloud's memories... That's how Cloud came to mumble some subtle but random stuff about Xenogears (even though FF7 was released a year before XG!).

As for FF11, if I'm not mistaking Kato was the main scenarist (though they say "plot designer" or something since it's an MMORPG). I never played the game but as far as I know the Zilart are reminiscent of the Zealian Enlightened Ones: highly intelligent people, living in the skies, worshipping some god, using magic and rejecting those who don't know how to use it...

He also wrote the lyrics to the one or two FF11 theme songs.
