Australia. The continent where people came for a new life, where they would find happiness (of course not the refugees, but thats not what this is about) But goddamn it, it is so freakin conservative! I mean, apart from the Middle East (my friend said in his flight to Dubai, the replaced all the "swear" words of iRobot with similar sounding words like "kit") and Singapore, it is prbably one of THE most conservative countries. Lets see...
1. Mysterious Skin
It was not band but this movie (which i can not see because of it R rating, oh and the rating system is E, P, C [but those arent used much], G, PG, M, MA, R and X) which my Geography teacher said was superb, was probably going to be banned, due to some "protecting children" movement. But dont you understand? What do you think ratings are for?
2. Leisure Suit Larry
I didnt care because it is a horrible game, but still it was quite strange that it was banned. I mean, sex in video game is stupid. And if you wish to protect children, how come ads are so sex oriented? I mean the, i think, Ford ad with the naked people which is censored with those blurred square things.
3. NARC
Another horrible game, but it too was banned. But it did teach to experiment with drugs
4. GTA: San Andreas
This absoulutely shook me. I am so lucky my friend got a copy for XBOX, or i would never get the SA goodness. After the announcement of it, it was banned in Australia. First of all, why? To get it, you must either download the mod for the PC version, or hack the XB or PS2 cd. Both would require you to actually WANT the sex mini game. And plus, they arent naked (unless you get another mod) So is this wrong because it teaches little children about sex? WRONG. If the parent believed it is too early to teach their kid about sex, dont buy the game. the game has swearing, violence and sexual references, and so not suitable for their special little child. im lucky my dad doesnt care. my mum probably does, but she worries if im 5 minutes late from school
So about the banned games. A while ago, the The Office of Film & Literature Classification or OFLC held a meeting with certain press about a unified classification policy. The mag a read, Hyper (EDGE Australia sucks, EDGE UK is too expensive and too hassling to get, and HYPER is downright funny) had "joygasms" at the prospect of having and R rating for games. It would show that games are for adults as well, and that some games are TOO mature for young kids. Too bad the OFLC said that they didnt think they needed one because games were for kids. Plus the new tags are ugly. They are brightly coloured. M being bright blue, showing gee this is pretty mature, so lets make it period. harr harr. MA is red, DANGER DANGER VOO VOOOOOO. And R is black, cause we all know black means bad
So it comes to the point were you must say, gee Australia, you suck
