Confucianism being influenced by Shinto as well as many other different religions/philosophies doesn't make confucianism a splinter of Shinto.

Well then I don't know the word for it. English isn't my primary language, so I'm still learning.

You're obviously doing a better job with it than most Americans do.

Honestly, it kind of irks me that the appearance of seriousness is so ingrained into the existing logical paradigm; oftentimes people become more concerned with sounding intelligent than with saying stuff that has a basis in fact behind it.  It's not like I can't put on a serious face, though.

See?  This is my serious face.

OWAIT

It's not like I never find joy in intellectual pursuits; if I didn't, I wouldn't be going into physics.  But IMO, what people need is a dose of humor to keep them anchored to societal reality.

I saw the same thing earlier today. It's so delicious! And it's nice to see some proof emerge that post-religious societies, like Western Europe and Japan, are doing better in pretty much every "moral" category than the hyper-religious United States is.

I don't see why Darwinism is a social evil. Believe what you will. And i dont see why America has to go around spreading Democracy, just because they believe its right, when America is probably the main abuser of democracy. I have brought my shield and am ready to get flamed 8)

To be fair, the article's author is known for taking every chance he can get to bash religion, Christianity in particular.  But I do see where he's coming from.  A rigidly moralistic society often devotes too much of its effort to that and not nearly enough to practical matters.  The feeling of oppression can set in and result in people wanting to rebel for the sake of feeling free.  Hence, teenage pregnancy, crime, and everything else.

Japan isn't a post-religious society; they are in fact very Buddhist.

pwned, proves that science and religion do not always contradict

Have you ever been to a site called faithfreedom.org? I have read some of the mail, and i too was heartbroken. But the thing those men do aren't promoted by Islam. I am not brainwashed. In Islamic meetings i dont usually listen because what they say is just babble about basic stuff. i research. One supposed paragraph said the prophet condoned a man for killing his slave, who was also a pregnant. This is probably untrue because in the Quran the woman who adultered went up to the prophet and said kill me because i have done this sin. But the prophet waited a while before killing, after she gave birth. If you dont agree with such rulings dont. We dont live in that country, and  i doubt anyone does, because it has been so tainted that it doesnt mean anything now. Women are allowed education, women keep all there money that they get (in fact, women dont have to pay for anything in the family) Islam does not condone rape, murder or any other crimes. And murder is not, from what i hear, instant death. The family of the victim can choose.

If you dont like Islam, i dont care. i wont kill you.

What a role-model.
