While it's sad that bands like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, & Bob Marley aren't making music, just because the music they made is old now makes it no less amazing. And to think that time can diminish such greatness is just rediculous.

Topic. Over.

Truly, rare are the times when anyone else expresses so perfectly that which I had intended to say. Simon and Garfunkel, Madonna (laugh all you want), Mike Oldfield, I could go on.

Its nice to see that people arent afraid of old music. Two of my friends go "stop living in the past. All your hippy music is gay" And they also believe any song over 4:30 is crap. That means that according to them Stairway to Heaven, Comfortably Numb and (oh no!) Starfucker Inc are crap!

That poll didn't exactly leave many options. As far as genres, I'm more for orchestral music, especially soundtracks, myself. I'm not one to listen much to Rock music. But, being the older brother of one hoping to become a musician, I have been exposed to a plethora of it, and my only opinion on the matter is based on being influenced by my brother.

That said, I would side with the older music. My brother, from whom most of my Rock music opinions are fashioned (me haveing precious little of my own knowledge or understanding in the matter) is much endeared of the older bands, and holds Guns'n'Roses to be the end of the true Rock era. As I said, I do not myself listen much to these bands, but these are a few of those I have been exposed to and thus have an appreciation for: Led Zeppelin* (ever a classic; I particularly like the lyrics of the Battle of Evermore), Aerosmith, Van Halen, Guns'n'Roses, and so on and so forth. I used to despise Rock, as a matter of fact, but due to my brother I respect it now. He has some very stern opinions on Rock, though, mostly siding with the elder music (though he does consider Hendrix to be overrated, come to think of it; in his mind, Page outclasses him.) He usually throws disdain on bands like Nirvana and U2.

*My brother told me a funny story about Led Zeppelin the other day. Apparently, for their first tour, Robert Plant and John Bonham (is that spelled right) were on salary, and not part of the band proper. Apparently, Jimmy Page made the two of them do all sorts of menial things like getting coffee and muffins.

Yah, it goes without saying that the topic creator wasn't referring to that sort of music, but rather was referring more narrowly to popular American music of the last few decades. It'd take a special kind of fool to write off Mozart for someone like Beyonce.

Jazz, anybody? What about John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Django Reindhart (sp?), or Eri Yamamoto trio?

Outside of that, I'd say early Pink Floyd, the Beatles, the Byrds, The Who, Breaking Benjamin, Iron Maiden, System of a Down, the Dead Kennedys...

That is so freaky, as you know, the wall songs are linked together. The most linked is thin ice and another brick pt 1. i put the wall on shuffle. it was shuffling nicely, but at thin ice, it went on to the direct next song, another brick 1. i tried three times, but it kept on doing this. are the mechanically connected this way?
