Mistranslations in CT
« on: October 22, 2005, 07:52:17 am »
I noticed the step-brother thing in Zeal just today, and freaked out. Then I searched on the forum and saw V_T's response saying it was a mistranslation. Seems there were quite a few under Ted Woolsey.

So...are there any other mistranslations out there that can be noted?

Damn, it's this stuff that makes me wish I could learn Japanese.

Well, there's the famous "Someone close to you needs help" line from Gaspar which is a complete add-on...But honestly, I don't know if I'd call most of the things mistranslations per say...Ted's stated that he had to cut over 50% of the game script due to cart, censorship, and I assume time issues. It's not all on the translator's shoulders anyhow...Let's just hope for the best from Sky Render over at RPGOne...

I assume SkyRender is translating the japanese version? Cool!

I also noticed that one of the people in Algetty says that he thinks Janus is potentially stronger than Zeal and Schala, and that he thinks Janus is just using both of them to get closer to Lavos.

Bahahaha.

Plus the Belthasar sparkle that says Lavos was summoned by a mage in Guardia.

Well, Magus did summon Lavos in 600 AD.

Though, I don't know if it was in Guardia area(as in the Kingdom or whatever.). :p

Do you mean these quotes?

Quote
OLD MAN: The Guru of Life said that Sir
   Janus has stronger powers than
   even Miss Schala!

Janus must be using her and the
   Queen to get to Lavos...

Quote
Lavos disappeared briefly when he
was summoned away by a mighty
wizard who lived in Guardia, in the
   year 600.

I would be very interested in reading the script once its completely translated in its entirety.

Didn't someone say someone was working on retranslating the original script all over again?

That would be what I was thinking of. That's something I need to go check out.

Well, I assume then that you're unfamiliar with RPGOne (that is, if you're unfamiliar with Google and couldn't find it yourself...>_>).

No, I already checked it out. I'm glad to see FF6 is almost completely done. That site makes me very happy.

I'm being patient. I'd rather a finished translation.
