Mistranslations in CT

Ugh, for the second time, it IS done...Perhaps you're referring to this though...

This is the 1.2 version of the retranslation. It has the first 25% retranslated

It almost seems like they only have 25% retranslated, right? Well, this is only in reference to their older versions. You see, 1.2 is a retranslation of their previous retranslation. The first 25% was done by someone else so Sky Render went back over it himself and re-edited things from scratch. The other 75% of the game was already done.

So it's all there, no worries.

Then what's the point of 2.0?

Not really. Dragon Quest...something is strangely prioritized before Chrono Trigger.

*sigh* thats just the news I wasn't wanting to hear -.-

You're saying its pretty much dead, correct?

I wonder if we'll ever actually see a retranslation of this game, or perhaps I'll have to somehow magically learn to read full Japanese.

On a related subject, does the original Japanese version have a lot of kanji? Or does it at the very least include the furigana (sp?)?

Well, I'm hoping the topic you posted at RPGOne's forum will prod them sufficiently to extract an answer. JLukas almost ripped the Japanese script himself, but we really don't have anyone to translate it for a Compendium retranslation, which stopped the CT Special Edition cold. If they formally dropped the project, we're really sunk unless someone around here learns the language.

Hmmm....... I see. Well, I have a few connections that might be able to do some of it, and between them all I'd bet we can get a lot of it done if you can get me the J script (obviously the rip will be in Kana and Kanji); I'll send you a PM with my email. (The one I used to register for the forums is rather.. well.. dead..)

Before you go to the trouble of dumping it though, let me ask around and see if there would be interest in it.

EDIT: Good news, Sky Render responded to say that it is in fact, not dead (as of yet), but as you had said before, DQ is a higher priority (though why I honestly have no idea.. the DQ games weren't -that- great in my opnion, at least no where near the same level as CT.. but I'm a bit biased I suppose :P)

I'd like to ask my question again. What's the point of 2.0 for the FFVI translation?

Polishing off the last round of bugs, I think. I played the retranslation back in Spring; the actual text has already been revised in some places, so I think 2.0 is just a sort of perennial release that signifies everything is said and done.

Those were good memories...Coming out of that horrible winter and semester by playing FFVI. Agony of obscuration.

What 2.0??? The only file they have there that's up to 2 is at 2.3 and that's Sky Render's FFVI Japanese to English Changes FAQ thing...So...Are you talking about something that's planned to happen or something, Mystik3eb?

edit: Okay, I just checked the FFVI Retranslation project page (which YOU should have done, Mystik3eb...I mean, what? too impatient to wait for an answer so you had to post your question twice but not impatient enough to go and look for yourself? :P) and I guess there are indeed plans for a 2.0...

Project Notes
The 1.x version of the translation is out, but that's not the end for this project! Plans have already been laid for the 2.0 release, which will feature variable-width fonts in the menus, a revised script, and maybe even a few other small surprises. Watch this space for more news!

Oh, and I don't think that the DQ project should take too long...I mean, most of the old DQ games weren't big on the story aspect anyways so it probably won't take as long as, say, FFVI, much less Chrono Trigger...>_> Which is probably what Sky Render was thinking, I'd venture.

Well, he says that he'll get to the translating within half a year, but no one is really sure about ChrisRPG so.. we'll see.

Yeah, I did go for myself. And I downloaded the patch and applied it; haven't started the game yet. What I was asking was the point of 2.0. I saw that description somewhere, I believe, but when you kept talking about how 1.2 was the final patch...that's why I got confused.
