How Serge caused the future to be destroyed?
« on: October 28, 2005, 10:15:16 am »
This is what I have in mind, but all these articles and theories have confused me...

In 1000 A.D. Crono & co began travelling in time. They went to 600 A.D... Then, back to 1000 A.D. and then to 2300 A.D. However, a few years after 1000 A.D. the world split into Home World and Another World. Since Another World is the default, the events of Chrono Trigger after 1000 A.D. happened in Another World.

Does this mean that all Serge caused is Crono & co saving Another World and leaving Home World be destroyed by Lavos?

If yes, there are really many changes that could cause a timeline to split. Why was this particular event the cause of this Great Split?[/i]

Let's see: Who says that he did?

And a follow up: Who right after refutes said person(s)?

None of the events in Cross happen until after Crono and crew defeat Lavos.

So, when was Lavos actually defeated by Crono & co, if not in 1999 A.D.?

It is usually considered that it was defeated in 1999.

I created this thread immediately after reading this article, just because these questions came in my mind. However, if you tell me to read it (and since I read all the articles in a few hours) I will read it again, in case I've missed something important. I'll be back.

This is the general concensus of what happened, but we don't know for sure.  Chrono Cross doesn't give any definite explanation for the Dead Sea other than Serge somehow being responsible for the destruction of the future world by Lavos.

Kid time travelling to save Serge from drowning in 1010 AD is the only known incidence of a dimensional split.  Chrono Cross did not offer any explanation why this occurred.

I always kind of thought that the reason why the Dead Sea was there in home world was because of Chronopolis.

Someone once said that Chronopolis or the whole of the Sea of Eden actually exists both in 7600AD + and in the un timecrashed timeline.
Possibly because Home World has no past of Chronopolis and is not connected to the un time crashed future, the Dead Sea appared instead and it reflected what was in the future, not actually what would become.

Besides the point that The Dead Sea isn't truely the Lavos time line. It's 2400AD in the Dead Sea, or atleast new buildings are there and they shouldn't have been.

The dead sea represents a new timeline where the destruction of the world by Lavos is restored.  It is probably subtly different from the original Lavos timeline due to the Time Crash.  The Dead Sea could be frozen at 2400 AD, as is suggested by the 2400 inscription on the Tower of Geddon, or not.

Quote
Miguel:
The Dead Sea is the true
   form of this planet's future.
   That's right...
At one stage our world was on
   the verge of such inevitable
   destruction...
That was in 1999, when the
   parasitical alien life-form known
   as Lavos awoke after centuries
   of feeding off this planet.
Lavos fell from the heavens a
   countless number of years ago
   and burrowed deep beneath the
   surface to eat and sleep.
   Slowly but deliberately, Lavos
   devoured our planet from the
   inside out...waiting for the time
to ripen for its true awakening.
   Finally Lavos did awake and
   manifested its true form on
   the surface of the planet.
That's when our world faced a
   death from which there seemed
   no possibility of escape...

Quote
[Lucca]
   At that very moment,
   this whole future time
   axis ceased to exist.
   Call it cause and effect...
It is just a problem of
   possibilities, after all...
   In this world, there are
   no such things as
   absolutes or certainties.

 [Marle]
   But the future that
   was supposed to have
   disappeared is about
   to be restored here...
   The future destruction
   of our planet is going
   to become a reality in
   this world once again...

well for one we know that chronopolis appeared in bc... this was before the split...

when the split accored it caused the crono group to remain in only one of the two timelines while traveling foward or back on the time line. if you assume that the gates where only existent in the orignal timeline(homeworld branches off like the short line in the lowercase y while the orignal timeline, another world, remains straght)

with the timeline branched in two, the feature of another world(orignal) would be unchanged because crono group destroyed lovas. but sense the homeworld(new branch) was inaccessable to the crono group the future was not saved, resualting in the future structure, chronopolis to be non existant, the destroyed future was pulled back to fill the void left by the non existant chronopolis

hows this sounding so far?

That's what I thought, too.
