Chrono Trigger Script Perfection
« on: December 31, 2003, 11:34:23 pm »
Hey, I'm making this into a sticky and new thread so that everyone will notice it. I'm going to post portions of the script being worked on that I am baffled by. GrayLensman might do the same.

I also found this weird anomaly:

Quote from: Script
[Black Omen]

3 of you! And in a place like THIS!
You've got a long journey ahead of you
so please rest awhile.
And if you wish to awaken from this
dream, there probably is a way...

What will you do?
      Wake up.
      Stay.

Hey!
We've got a customer!

UNDERLING: Get on, ribbit!

What will you do?
      Shop!
      Just chat.

Got a lot of great stuff!

Come again!

These just don't sell too well, ho, ho!!

See ya around!

UNDERLING: You're starting to bug me!
How long do I have to put up with
   your drivel, ribbit?

BOSS: Just shut up and push, will ya,
   GRIBBIT!

UNDERLING: Hey, Boss.
   What's your life's dream, ribbit?

BOSS: My personal dream?
To be King of the Sewer!
   Gribbit!

BOSS: Oh, all right...!
   What's your little dream?
   Gribbit.
$8SK2:
UNDERLING: I just want to keep being
   your apprentice, ribbit.
$8SK4:
BOSS: Sheesh!
   You're making me cry, here.
[pause]
I'm gonna tell Krawlie what you just
   said!!
$8SK6:
UNDERLING: Ribbit...ribbit, ribbit!
$8SK8:
BOSS: Gribbit, gribbit, GRIBBIT!
$8SKA:

The script begins with the Nu's offering to leave the Black Omen; is that also what it says to sell items? I cannot remember.  At the end of this piece is dialogue between the frog pair from the Sewer Access; unfortunately I have recently played through this in Chrono Trigger and I never remember these lines being uttered. Anyone recognize any of this?

Now I've found a comment that originates from Porre but escapes my memory. Anyone remember reading this:

"It was Magus who killed off the
forest up north."

Quote from: Sewer Access
BOSS: Someone's coming!
   Let's scram, grribbit!
Marle: This is a tad on the spooky
   side...
Lucca: This is an eerie place.
I've got a bad feeling about this...
Ayla: Bad place!
   Much danger.

Zeality, if you don't pass through the Sewer Access until Ayla joins your party, she will say this before going down the ladder to the second level.

I've found some other things in the text dump which don't appear to be in the game.  We might be lucky and gain some further insight from these excluded lines.

After Ayla invites the party to see plenty of stones in Ioka and attend a festival, she says:

Ayla: Stone?
   Plenty stones!
   Here, there, at village.
   You take plenty.
Crono come, Ioka village this way.

-->Ayla: Crono too slow!<---

Anyone remember this quote? The reason I must nitpick is that there is a case of a line from Dalton appearing in a totally unnatural and unexpected spot.

Also, in the middle of Ioka speech is:

Transform!

Now who in the world utters that line?

I've encountered that quote quite some times.
It is said when you reach the exit of the Mystic Mountains.
Perhaps, as the quote says, it only appears if you're too slow in getting there.

I too can confirm that Ayla quote. Once I decided to battle everyone before catching up with Ayla and she was waiting for me at the end of Mystic Mountain (whoa, for some reason I've forgotten how to spell Mt...is that right?)...

As for the "Transform" quote...I'm not sure, but could it be the Yakra in the present timeline? I know his ancestor, Yakra XIII, says something similer when he transforms. "Super, ultra, presto...TRANSFORM-O!!!!!!"

Hmm...Now that I think about it...It starts to sound familier. Maybe something Dalton says when he's in the Epoch? Naw, nevermind...I don't know...

If you fight the four Kilwalas at the end of the trail when "racing" Ayla, she'll come back on screen after the battle and say that line.

As for "Transform", Yakra from 600 AD says "True-form... CHANGE!" and Yakra the 13th says "Super ultra presto TRANSFORM-O". I don't recall either one of them just saying "Transform". :/

Here are some interesting location names from the script...

$1uXq:Gobb's house
Who the hell is Gobb? Found that after Crono and Lucca's houses...

$1uXw:Eternal repose
$1uXy:Breakwave Pt.
Found those inbetween Snail Stop, Truce Inn, etc.

$1uZI:Robot village
After Sun Palace and before Mystic Mts. O.o

$1uZc:Chanting Mt
After Tyrano Lair... Singing Mountain maybe?

$1uZy:Exoskeleton
After the 12,000 BC locations

$8SGs:
STRANGE CREATURE: Caution.[nl]
The Time Axis is out of order.

I don't remember the Nu ever saying that. O.o

I found this exchange between the Chancellor and King Guardia XXI mashed in the ending scripts...

Quote
CHANCELLOR: B, but your majesty, what[nl]
   victory?[nl]
   We have never fought anyone!
$F2Wi:
KING GUARDIA: Do you have any[nl]
   children, Chancellor?
$F2Wk:
CHANCELLOR: Y, yes, of course.
[pause]
KING GUARDIA: Then our victory is their[nl]
   freedom![nl]
Your children, and theirs as well, now[nl]
live in a world that knows hope.
$F2Wm:
CHANCELLOR: Ow, oww!
$F2Wo:
KING GUARDIA XXI: Yes, he's real.
[/quote]

I think that was meant for one of the endings,  but I don't ever recall seeing it. The Time Axis thing is meant to be said by the Nu in the Keeper's Dome -- this we know due to its location in the script...no idea what it means, though.

Ayla: Kino![nl]
   What you do?!

I find it odd that this bit was repeated TEN TIMES in the script...

Looks like this bit was supposed to be tacked onto Magus's flashback of the original Ocean Palace disaster...

Quote
QUEEN: So Melchior?[nl]
   You see, the Mammon Machine[nl]
   functions perfectly.
[pause]
   Your worries were for naught.
$FrjQ:
QUEEN: The Guru of Reason, Belthasar.
$FrjS:
QUEEN: And the Guru of Time, Gaspar...
$FrjU:
QUEEN: Foolish ones, watch closely.
[pause]
   Lavos awakens![nl]
The sun will never set on Zeal!
$FrjW:
GASPAR: Hmm...![nl]
   A dimensional warp!
[pause]
BELTHASAR: This power is beyond[nl]
   human control!
etc. etc.
