You're thinking too small--I wanted to discover a solution that works on carts as well. Believe it or not, I play CT on the SNES. And yes, this procedure does work on it.
I doubt very much that anyone with "even a basic understanding of savestate and RAM modification could do this." Two reasons: first, people have been trying a LONG time to make it possible. I found five topics on Magus vs. Magus amongst the seven CT boards I checked, including this one--and no one, anywhere, has made public a way to do this. The info simply isn't available. Maybe this HAS been done before, but it hasn't been made public. Second, this wasn't possible until the position of the storyline counter in the RAM was discovered and deciphered--and that's been a relatively recent development.
And even if all of you think that doing this was a waste of time, consider: I had to customize and test three additional codes of my own to make this possible, which took nearly 3 hours. And if nothing else, the final two codes I've listed above affect how many people are in your party at once. This is something that no one's discovered how to do until now. You won't have to use the "Lucca/Red Gate/Walk Thru Walls" trick recorded on this website anymore to affect this. So if you all want to diss my work, at least recognize it had some utility.
I find it amusing that as soon as someone does something like this, everyone else simultaneously talks about how it's not a worthwhile accomplishment and brags about how they could have done it. Several people on this board seem to have stuck in their heads the idea that just because they've been visiting the Chrono Compendium for a while, they know a lot more about CT than all newbies. Talk about a false elitist attitude.
Finally, I did this just for fun people. And because I found it to be a worthwhile challenge. Get off my back.
