An easier way...
Within IE go to Tools > Manage Add-Ons > Show: Addons that have been used by IE > Windows Genuine Advantage > Disable
And Windows Update will work like a charm. Please note that this isn't illegal in any way, Microsoft know about the workaround, it's just that people using it won't get access to a few certain updates, but major or critical ones will continue to be available.

Another alternative is to turn on Automatic Updates in XP - it achieves the same thing.

Hm. I'm a bit confused as to what .NET Framework 2.0 even does. It sounds like a new piece of technology from Microsoft, which I assume means it has some security issues, doesn't work for 98, and can't be removed once installed. I'm going to have to look into it some more. I wonder if it would be possible for there to be a stand alone version of Temporal Flux? It'd probably be huge though.

I have installed the .NET framework, but when I load TP i get this

hey uhh I downloaded all that stuff and whenever I clikc on it it says (and I quote)         "Temporal FLux has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."           every time!

Try re-downloading Temporal Flux. I think I had a similar problem.
