Well, I guess your critics of my favorite RPG are valid, but give it a break, the game was made in 1992 :)  Worlds back then didn't have the depth they do in modern RPGs, or even late SNES RPGs.

I've played FFIV about 3 or 4 times on various systems and still haven't gotten through the damn thing...Although I still count it among the top 3 best FFs and I think it breaks my top 10 RPGs...I don't know about that one anymore though...That's changed a lot in the last few...

Iīve played through it at least 10 times since it was first released and i still love it. Together with FF 6 itīs the best game in the series.

Yeah, my criticisms for FF4 are sort of like my criticisms for Star Trek: The Next Generation's later seasons. While I can spot a difference in the show and prefer the first couple seasons, the entire program is still amazing and excellent.

WTF. Terra is the main character, like Crono, but is not needed in the final battle.

The whole plot drives around her, pretty much. Her goal to find the espers, and find out who she is, caused Kefka to find them, eat them, and then go to that goddess island. The emperor gets killed and Kefka fu*ks up the world.

Then we realise that if Kefka is defeated, then all the espers will die, and that may include Terra.

But we kind of find out that her esper half died, and now she's a mortal like everyone else with no magic.

Well yeah...but it only drives around her a little more than many of the other characters. There is SO much of the game that has NOTHING to do with her, and where she isn't involved at all.

My opinion still stands, she's the most important character, but FFVI doesn't have a "main character".

I dunno if you were talking to me or not (I'm guessing you weren't), but I know what you mean. That part of the game gets most of my credit. It was the first with such depth, and therefore incredibly powerful at it's time. It's much appreciated for that. Most my complaints are about the gameplay.

Hmm... just came to me, so how's 'bout we do a little summary of the main characters of all the FF games?

1 - None. Not even any actual characters in the party, really.

2 - None (or you could argue shared equally between the three)

3 - None. Like one, barely any characterization here, either, though there's a miniscule amount more.

4 - Cecil

5 - Butz barely edges out Lenna and Faris

6 - No one definite, but Terra and Celes are the only ones you could make any decent argument for. The best answer is simply that there's none.

7 - Cloud

8 - Squall

9 - The instinctive answer most people come up with here is Zidane, but you could also make a good argument for Vivi.

10 - Tidus

11 - Whichever one you create :P (stupid MMORPG breaking the numerical series)

And, just for completion, the spin-offs (at least the ones I can think of just sitting here):

FF Mystic Quest - Your renamable main character. Hardly an issue.

FF Tactics - Ramza

FF Tactics Advance - Marche

FF Crystal Chronicles - Whichever one you make (ala FF 11)

Bahamut Lagoon (it feels more like an FF spin-off than an independant title) - Byuu

FF X-2 - Yuna

Notice something here? We have only one female main character in all of FF, and that's in a spin-off. Or two if you count Terra/Celes. Makes you think about the latent sexism in the video game industry, or maybe just those who play it.

But then the question comes up, would more women play these games if they were more favorable to women in the first place?

It's too bad Septerra Core wasn't more popular. What a great PC RPG. I recommend it to you all.

The main character in that is a girl, btw.

Oh, you forgot the FF Legends! I haven't played those three in years, but they had main characters...I just don't remember anything about them.

Oh, and the main character in FF Adventure (really Seiken Densetsu 1) was a guy!

And Vincent is the Dirge of Cerberus lead, isn't he? Or whatever the PS2 FFVII sequel is called... And the one on GBA with the Turks...

...yeah...

Before Crisis, the FFVII spin-off staring the Turks is for cellphones, not the GBA.

Yeah, I knew about FF Legends and FF Adventure. The reason I didn't include them is that they were only given the FF title in the American release in hopes that they would sell more copies that way. In the Japanese releases, they were independant.

One could make a case for Yuna being the main character of FFX, but I wouldn't buy it.  I'd buy it more than Vivi in FF9 though.

FF Legends is SaGa, but if I recall correctly, FF Adventure is Seiken Densetsu right? If so then its full name in Japan was something like "Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden"... Technically, it was a FF spin-off.

I do agree with you there, but neither could be main character in my opinion. The real main characters are just too blatant.
