Ever thought of a Chrono Trigger MMORPG?

Even if you could work in time travel, and assuming making changes in the past could change the present...well, I don't wanna think of the chaos.

A CC based MMORPG would be a tad more practical, but MMO's still suck.

I am completly against a CT MMORPG, for a few reasons.

One, it would completly change the series, for the worse.  Sure, it would probably be immesnly popular and picked up by tons of people who know nothing about the series if the mechanics were right (Diablo II and WoW sold like hotcakes, if you didn't get that memo), but honestly I don't want that.

Plus, if you didn't notice, MMORPG's lack something that console RPG's have:  a STORY.  There's character development, sure, but it's all in terms of upgrading your strength and spell's, and nothing to do with personality.

In all honesty, a CT MMORPG is a horrible idea in every aspect.  Diablo II was fun (I played it for a good 1.5-2 years in 8th-9th grade, I'm now a Jnr in college) because it was mindless clicking, and no story to get logged down with.  You don't want either of those thigns hapenning in a Chrono game.

A good idea, in theory.  I can see the allure of a CT MMORPG.  But in practice, it would be horrible.  Time travel couldn't work in such an environment, unless SquareEnix were to set up one-time only time travel events that would change the present/future of the game world. But that would be a nightmare to organize, and would invariably exclude countless players.  Dimensional travel... honestly, that would just devolve into pointless side quests to 'hidden' areas, like Dynamis in FF XI.  It be cool for the higher-level players who have mastered 'everything" and are just waiting for the next expansion pack, but for day to day questing, it would be no different than travel to any other area.

Then there's the story issue to worry about.  Most MMORPG's don’t have a story, and the absence of one would kill the main draw to the Chrono universe.  Even MMORPG's that do have stories are hampred by the fact that said story has to be the same for everyone that plays, it as if they are the only one to experncie the events that make up said story.   This of course requires a heavy suspension of disbelief since you’re surrounded by hundreds of other gamers playing alongside you. While FF XI has managed to pull it off with some semblance of success, I'm skeptical the feat could be repeated with CT.

A CT MMORPG Its just a MMORPG with Chrono's scenario, weapons and traveling time portals. Everybody keeps fighting with monsters, gain xp, "interact with other players" (yeah, great interaction.), and then stops playing it to finda another MMORPG.

So, to me It wouldnt be different than any MMORPG that exists nowadays in the market. Using "elements" of a game is not truly a sequel. Its not a CT MMORPG: its a MMORPG using CT elements. Its impossible to recreate CT's atmosphere in an online game.

It's very possible with Pokemon though, and Harry Potter. They should really make them into MMORPG's.

Urg... Both of those series of games (with the exception of a few pokemons) are farces in my opinion. The ONLY reason why they would sell is because of the notoriety that they would have from previous success.
Pokemon got very stale after te fourth game.

That and 2D mmorpgs aren't good.

The only real problem I see with MMO's is they tend to capitilize on human's excessive nature. I personally play a game for a couple of hours on the weekend with a couple friends for fun; the only way that MMO's are more "nerdy" than normal games are because there's a large percentage of the players who have essentially made it their life.

On topic, I don't think the series would make a good MMO unless

A.) A basis plot *was* created for it, and it's as deep as the the games in the series are.

B.) It incorporated a limited number of characters/players, so it would be essentially similar to Resident Evil: Outbreak ('cept minus the communication issues) combined with Chrono Trigger, and combined with the real life aspect of free choice (for example, a certain character is not obligated to join the big party etc.)

I know that it's an unrealistic vision, and that there are too many unstable variables. But it's the only way I can see *any* potential in an online CT/CC.

By that logic, no Chrono fangame can exist, since it'd kill the "deep storylines".

The average MMOer spends upwards of twenty hours a week on his/her chosen MMO. Because of the monthly subscription fee, they feel they must make the most of the subscription and play it heaps. Eventually it gets beyond that and becomes an addiction for many. The leveling treadmill and pay-for-play style of the game draws people in and forces them to keep playing, or lose thier character and waste all those hard-earned hours. maybe the addiction woud be lessenned if there was an upfront fee, and maybe a yearly renewal cost.

20 hours? My friend spends up to at least 40 hours on World of Warcraft! Ive played it once at his place and all I can say is it SUCKED! Give me the Chrono Series anyday.

WoW doesn't suck... It's actually a pretty good MMO, but the only MMO I actually like is Ragnarok Online, and I'll admit I like it not for the system, but rather for the style:

1. It's Anime style, and I hate a fanboyism fit when I saw the graphics\artwork

2. It has some nice social options.

3. It doesn't require a powerful machine

4. An abundance of classes, developments, weapons and armor!

5. It was my first MMO ever, so it's nostalgia factor, too.

Well, it's a decent concept, but...
Like everyone said, how the blazes would you get it to work? I mean, you'd have to take out half the plot elements just to fix it so that everybody could time (or dimension) travel, and that was what made the Chrono series special: the PLOT. I mean, if you could show me a way to honestly make it work, and work WELL, then hells yes, I will buy it. But if not...

Of course I'd like to see a MMORPG in the Chrono world (bigger than CT's earth, though).

If the Chrono MMORPG followed the steps of Guild Wars, it could have a story (since GW does, thanks to its instance system which makes everything look like it's caused by you) AND changes in the present, caused by the past (anybody seen the GW real-time updates?).

So, yes, it IS possible. And it would be great. You hear me? Great! It would destroy the Chrono world as we know it, but I guess that other Chrono games won't care about what happens in the MMORPG for their story. So, I want one, although I'd prefer a sequel.
