For the last several hours, Deus has been working on his savestate editor for Chrono Cross, which makes use of saves created by the ePSXe emulator. It is now ready to release, and can edit character names, stats, star count, gold amount, equipment (both equipped and in inventory), and Elements in inventory. Deus has noted that in the near future, the ability to edit Elements equipped may be added, which could allow for some interesting Element Grids. Additionally, this means you can also circumvent the game's restriction on naming Serge "Crono" (though why you would do that is beyond me!). The editor utilizes the Python programming language to run in combination with the wxPython extension, and as a result is cross compatible between operating systems. However, if you haven't already installed Python and wxPython, you will need to do so.
Download the editor
here. Additionally, quick installation files for Python and wxPython can be found
here (Microsoft installer) and
here (executable) respectively. Have fun!
I also have two other bits of news today. Virt, webmaster of VGMix, has noted that the new incarnation of the site will indeed be VGMix 3.0 and will contain all the songs submitted to VGMix 2.0. In fact, all the user data is intact, and will be updated when the new site launches. Sadly, a timeframe for that launch is not currently available. Secondly, the Chrono Trigger Retranslation project now has ten translators currently working to liberate the Japanese version's secrets. More are welcome, so if you have a good knowledge of the language and a desire to make available the original version of the game, just e-mail zeality@gmail.com with your request. Again, we are hugely thankful for the current translators; the Retranslation page has consistently gotten many page views since its creation, and the entire community appreciates your work.
