Don't you realize that this artificial speeding up of warmth doesn't allow the planet to adapt? Before when the planet changed, the WHOLE planet changed. But now it doesn't have time too. The planet isn't going to suffer, we are.
And I actually think we will see a "Day After Tommorrow" kind of thing, albeith less chaotic and destructive.

we'll be long dead before any of that happens

hey, in many millions of years, the sun will explode incinerating everything in this solar system so . . .

either way . . . this planet is doomed sometime

perhaps it is fate?

There's no such thing as fate. The universe is, to the best of my knowledge, probabilistic, thus perfect predetermination is impossible. Fate has always been a cowardly notion; now we know it to be a false one as well.

Not to mention that notion is a cowardly notion and a false one as well.

This is not, I repeat, not, an argument about fate. Fate can just mean that a higher being knows what is going to happen.

And yes, we are doomed. So we might as well commit suicide, or jump across a trail track when a train is coming, because, well, we'll die anyway!

That's such a defeatest attitude, though. Yes, we are all doomed to die. If any thing, that should be motivation to make the most of the time we do have! We've only got one shot at this, so instead of giving it up because it's fleeting, we should savor every minute, and try to make it the best it can be.

At the end of all theories and beleifs, under it all, if we don't aim to live in happiness, we are wasting oxygen and space.

It'll be more like a couple/few *billions* of years before the Earth is gobbled up.

Honestly, that's plenty of time for us to make ourselves a new place to live.  In fact, we're almost certainly going to get hit by another deadly meteor before then.  But even that will probably be several (likely hundred or so) millions of years away.

The real threat to our existence is the stuff that can doom us within the next thousand years (more or less).  Global warming, nuclear winter, whatever...

There's something to be said for focusing on the things you can control (or should be able to control), especially when they are in fact the more decisive matters.

"It's common sense."

Excuse my ignorance if this sounds stupid... but couldn't causality be seen as a form of fate? After all, if all things are cause and effect, that would imply that they've been set into causal motion since the Big Bang - as such, things now have been predetermined since the beginning. Wouldn't that be fate in and of itself? Maybe I just mis-interpreted that, though.

The uncertainty of quantum mechanics takes care of that.

Ah, okay. Honestly, that was in the back of my mind when I wrote that. Causality... but what about quantum mechanics? Isn't that random? That's why I asked uncertainly.

Not sure if I understood you, but I was being sarcastic.
And for all we know, the world could end today. No one knows.

not to mention all us power hungry idiots

"we're badass cause we got nukes"

i don't understand . . . even if we were to launch them, we'd be killing ourselves, like u said, nuke winter

for all the pansies that would hide underground, u'd have to hav quite a supply of food, not to mention clean oxygen, the sun wouldn't be able to shine on our planet because of that coding of blanket and we'd all die . . . even when u do come up, radiation will be a bitch, so don't forget them special suits

who givs a rats ass who has the most missiles, we keep building that shit while we should be pressing on to far greater conerns . . . idk like space travel - only from our telescopes and crafts hav we plotted certain parts of space, hell we REALLY don't kno what the hell is above our heads

of this so called universe itself, galaxies, nebulas, planets, stars and all that crap don't even make up 20% of our universe

the rest of it is unknown invisible dark matter

bottom line, every1 jus needs to chill and get along (like that will ever happen)

no it is indeed fact, check it out sometime because it really is interesting

what could be all that mysterious dark matter be?
astrologists and scientists have yet to discover what it might be

i found this though, hope it helps >>http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/astronomy/dark_matter_sidebar_010105.html
