Someone really needs to explain to me exactly in what way Shadow of the Colossus is so great, ‘cause I'm afraid I just don’t freaking get it.

Top 10 PS2 games? ACK! I have too many faves to choose 10.

I can definitely say that those above the rest include FFX, FFX-2, Shining Tears,
Disgaea, Kingdom Hearts (1 & 2), and Soul Calibur 3.

I'm yet to decide on a particular order for my top faves. And it might take me
months just to figure out an actual 'top 10' list. (LOL)

I was very underwhelmed at that point too, but by the time I got to the top of the first Colossus- well, gripping onto the creature's fur for dear life was exhilarating, breathtaking experience. Persist with that Collosus, and you'll (probably) come to love the game like I did- it's my second favourite game, just below Chrono Trigger.

You beat it by stabbing it's leg to make it fall down, and then jumping up (from it's leg) onto a platform on the ankle. The rest is pretty easy.

Shadow of Colossus had a GREAT theme going on. It's flaws, however, took away from overall gameplay entirely. The framerate in this game is definitely below 25 fps...hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it was below 10 for crying out loud. Especially when fighting the colossi, the framerate takes a giant nose-dive on graphical-heavy parts. And another thing...I don't see what's so great about the game's graphics. Sure, they're decent for a PS2 game, but both FF12 and Valkyrie Profile 2 have better graphics and neither of those games experience mass slowdown. Even Resident Evil 4, with all of the crazy things happening on screen at once, topped with incredible graphics, doesn't experience slowdown that SoC does. It's disappointing really.

I have to give credit to SoC's music though, it's enthralling.

Well, SotC renders HUGE moving enemies with awesome AI and all the areas have no loading times, so it's pretty hard on the PS2.

First, you should be playing SotC in 16:9 with the progressive cables. It looks much better that way. The reason people say it looks so great even though it may not be the most graphically intense game on the PS2 (although it's up there) is because of art direction. Everything in the world looks like it belongs, and it is an art style that suits the theme of the game. Not to mention it was executed incredibly well. The game has a few flaws, but all are for the PS2s lack of the power needed to actually make that game work. The draw distances come in to play abruptly, and it could go for some anti-aliasing. What is a little frustrating is that the GameCube or the Xbox would have been powerful enough to make that game how it should have been, but you develop for the company who pays your bills, not whose hardware might be best suited to the task.

For my part I really enjoyed Shadow of the Colossus. The gameplay was fun, and I liked the whole presentation of the world.

Speaking of SotC, I'm playing ICO right now. It's very impressive, although it does have one or two flaws.

Quote from: Sentenal
The levels being similified and shrunk didn't bother you much?  Magic being made unnessisary didn't bother you much?  The game being made really easy didn't bother you much?  Atlantica didn't bother you much?

I liked the levels more in this one, though that may be because they finally brought in MAPS!! I didn't find them simpler, at all. So...no, it didn't bother me ^_^

I didn't find Magic unnecessary, though I missed Aero, and found Reflect rather pointless, and got pissed that Lightning was weakened (though I never used it Donald, is notorious for it)...actually Fire and Blizzard are quite useful, especially in Forms. I use them ALL the time, when levelling up and in the Colisseum. So, aside from Cure costing ALL my MP, which bothers me alot, the magic changes didn't bother me TOO much. I'd say it's better and worse than the first one.

I didn't find the game easier, I found it less annoying. Sure, I died more on the Expert version of KH1 than KH2, but I find the Colisseum and trying to perfect Jiminy's Journal QUITE harder than anything in the first game. Sephiroth was much much harder in this one, for one, and so was the final boss. I found most the Organization members to be harder than most bosses in KH1. So maybe it's just me *shrug*

But yes, Atlantica bothers the shit outta me. If the music wasn't so horribly lame and cheesy, I would like it. Instead, I mute the damned thing.

But look at all the things better about this game! It's so vastly superior in every other way we haven't mentioned. Battles are so much ridiculous fun, summoning actually has USE, Forms are illegally fun and addictive, 100 Acre Wood's minigames are quite addictive and fun as well, the story is better and better focused, most the voice acting is better (though the choice for Cid bothered me, and Mandy Moore was a much better Aerith than Mena Suvani), there's a TON more dialogue, which is ALL skippable (thank SE God...), the music is overall better, it's a longer game, the characters are all expanded on and cooler than before, being able to access shops and synthesizing from all worlds by save points is very nice, etc etc.

I've probably said this a billion times, but the human race angers me in it's stubborness to view sequels as well as originals, except in rare cases. This game is better than the original, I've heard few say otherwise, but  most people say they like the first one more, or at least just as much, and typically they don't know why exactly. I do. It's because the second one isn't the original! They can't seem to let go of it and accept this as a different game that shares characters and story as the first. Drives me bonkers...*sigh* [/rant]

I actually have a question to all KH2 players out there, for those who can help me. I'm trying to finish the Tournaments under the score required for Jiminy's Journal to be satisfied. Reaching the required score is nigh-impossible, and I still can't do it in the later Paradox rounds. Does anyone have any strategy they've found that racks up enough points, specifically in the Cerberus Cup? It's driving me crazy, and there are no FAQs to help ANYWHERE on the web, and the Strategy Guide is useless beyond simple strategy in merely beating the Tournaments.

To rack up good amount of points, use Stitch and his Ohana or use Gravity to get all enemies together and Thundaga them.

I am appalled at the amount of people on this thread who do not have a metal gear solid game on their list. At the risk of sounding ignorant, I hate you all. That being said...
1-Substance
1.5-Subsistence(doesn't have as many extras as Substance does. And Snake is much cooler than Big Boss)
2-FFXII
3.Okami
4.GTA:SA
5.DMC3
I'm gonna end it there until I play ICO shadow of the collossus,ZOE2, and some other things you guys listed.
Grandia Xtreme sucked balls, I should have gotten Grandia 3 for cheaper.
I loved Xenogears, should I play Xenosaga?
Oh, little sidenote. Did you know gamespot has only given two games a perfect ten, Ever?
Tony Hawk 4 and....
Chrono Cross!! Does Zeality run that site too?..
