El Nido is located in the Ocean to the west of Porre.

I think South West would make more sence. It's tropic, so it'd have to be like on the equator or lower than Porre (Since Porre doesn't seem very tropic), and also, to the west is Choras so yeah.

It has to be south west or east of porre, but if you assume the earth of CT is the same size as real earth there is about 4000 miles between porre and the next land mass. I don't know if that is big enough to be called a continent or if that is signficant size ^.^ north/south wise though, east of pore there is 8-10,000 miles. South-west there is 6,000 miles available.

If you shrink down the CC map and place it south-west it is extremely close to  the sun keep...and we find that the mainland of sun keep is only 700 or so miles.

Interestingly enough if you edit the CT map so you get that area better displayed...you can see that pore can land on the north-western coast of North Zenan and go through a pass that'd be fairly easy to go through to take Gaurdia castle.

Also take in to effect that El Nido appears to be surrounded by a mountainous region enclosing the perimeter of the area. Now this is probably just so CC had it's area limit boundaries, but in the upper north west corner is a little water way with a mean current in which only huge boats can move up and down to cross into El Nido and leave. I'd say that El nido itself it definately located south or SE of Porre.

Here are the only 2 precise informations we have about El Nido's location:
Quote from: Karsh, about the Frozen Flame
Karsh:
   Aaaah... That's a top-priority,
   classified secret.
   Its existence has been rumored
   in the northern countries
   for generations...
   Legend claims it contains
   mysterious powers which can
   guide anima and change
   history...
   But no details are known.

We don't know which countries Karsh is referring to, but since Medina and Choras have little to no role at all in CC, he may be referring to Zenan. In which case El Nido would be South of it.
Quote from: Glenn
Glenn:
The general and his men are
   headed for Fort Dragonia.
   There has been word that
the major power of the East,
   Porre
, is up to something
   suspicious.
   They seem to have heard
   the rumors of the
Frozen Flame in El Nido and
   are coming to investigate.

Of course, the Earth is round so wherever El Nido is, Porre would always be "East" of it even if El Nido is right off the Eastern coast of Zenan... but Glenn's quote would be kind of dumb then. Simplicity implies that the closest direction from Porre to El Nido would be West.

Actually that doesn't imply that El nido is east of Porre. It says that Porre is an eastern power...even though on the CT map it falls to the west.

Exactly. If you're looking at Porre . . .

. . . it would be to the west of the area there.

What if we're seeing the map backwards? I know of some maps that show America on the east side of the map even though it's considered "Western".

Yeah it doesn't imply that El Nido is East of Porre, I actually said it implies the contrary, that El Nido is West of Porre.

I said that since the planet is round, Glenn's quote could be ambiguous about El Nido and Porre's position. But then why would the scenarists have put such a sentence if it was totally senseless? CT clearly shows that Porre can't be a major power "of the East" relative to a whole world map. So it has to be a power "of the East" relative to El Nido's position.

What's more, the Chrono world map isn't like our Earth's map. Our maps can have America at the West or at the East because no land is "cut" by any of the 2 configurations. This is not the case for the Chrono continents. The map shown in CT is the only one possible, if you put Porre at the East the map would have Medina (or another continent) "cut" in half, with one part at the West and the other at the East.

In regards to the tropical climate comment, there's no proof that the world that Chrono Trigger/Cross takes place in has climates similar to Earth. And if it was, the equator would be somewhere around the Zenan bridge, assuming that the map we see is the entire world. Keep in mind as well that the El Nido archipelago is EXTREMELY small compared to the CT map. You could very easily place it off the coast of Porre and it wouldn't be near enough to Choras for them to consider it a major power, not that it ever would be one.

For all we know though, the world of Chrono Trigger might have two or three suns. Although I highly doubt it, since there's only one Sun Keep, and not a "North Sun Keep" "South Sun Keep" and a "West Sun Keep". That's just my take on this, because I've always wondered where El Nido would be in relation to the Chrono Trigger maps. I'm thinking of adding it into my map of the Apocolypse and letting you enter it, but having them say that you need to insert Disc 1 of Chrono Cross to enter this area. :)

Everytime in the series when there's a shot of the sky or space, we only see one sun.

Everytime in the series also takes place during the middle of the afternoon.. there's rarely any time changes. Night is only shown in Chrono Cross when rescuing Kid, and night is shown in Chrono Trigger only when you're sitting in the clearing, before you rescue Lara. Ironic. At least that's all I can remember of their being night scenes. I'm confident there's only one sun though.
