When my mother was in the hospital (don't ask), I played some oldschool NES ROMs (mostly Tecmo Super Bowl) on my Dreamcast (but mostly I watched G4)...And then I got to borrow my nephew's Gamecube...And recently I've come back to the library to get some books and watch some movies...Here is my take on the things i've played, watched and read so far...Just because...I'm bored and I don't feel like walking home yet.
GamesResident Evil 4 - Finally a Capcom sequal that doesn't suck monkey balls. Yeay for the camera angle change. Less cinematic but much more involving. Boo for the continued suckatude of the RE "New Game+" feature...It shames the New Game+ name...At the very least there should have been more difficulty levels...not that "Professional" was all that different than any Hard mode in the RE games...The game looks effing fantastic. It becomes hard to believe that Nintendo's lil system can punch out such great looking graphics on such a wittle itty bitty disk. Good job Capcom.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - I never believed it before I got the chance to really delve into this game, but Link deserves to stand alongside Crono as a Hero of Time. There has hardly been a more satisfying in-game moment as when Link gets to grow up and ride a freakin' horse. Take THAT young Link and rolling around the world like a putz! Oh damn, but then I have to go back to being young Link some times? w/e...
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Interesting concept, but ultimately annoying. At least it fealt a tiny bit shorter than OoT...Oh nos! My horse becomes a lot less usefull! w/e...OoT>MM...but LttP>OoT for me...Great Fairy Sword should have been equippable as a regular sword, I felt like a putz swinging it w/the C stick or w/e...
Super Mario Sunshine - Mario sure got himself annoying, didn't he? It's like a Zelda game, only w/o the good gameplay aspects...Boring.
MoviesFantastic Four - Much more Batman & Robin and not enough Batman Begins. There was too much tongue and cheek bullshit and Doom was a loser...wtf? I'd recommend a rental just so you could more accurately bash it, but the only thing ever good about them was that they had some of the baddest of the badass villains...mainly just Doom & Galactus...and they were always worldwide threats anyhow...
Blade: Trinity - Whoa, Whistler dies again...big whoop...Better than Blade 2, but is that saying that much?
Steamboy - I was expecting more from this anime...Average at best. I still hold high hopes for Metropolis, but this makes me rethink things a little...
Elektra - Sucked as much as I figured it would...They need to make a Frank Miller's Elektra...not to mention a Frank Miller's Daredevil...and a Frank Miller's Batman...Frank Miller's The Dark Night Returns...etc...Frank Miller is your god.
Constantine - There you go DC, dip into your Vertigo line and you'll pull up shit that's better than half of your Batman and Superman movies combined. I realize that this could have been better if they had gotten someone other than Reeves, but Hollywood is Hollywood and not everything can be changed...he didn't fuck it up too bad. I had heard that this movie would make you want to stop smoking...But I think that's probably more true for Hellblazer than it's movie adaptation...I mean, he never spit up anything but blood...lame. I want my smoker's cough to be chunky dammit! Now we need to see if they can spit us out a good Sandman movie...hmm...and I wonder about Watchmen...
BooksStephen King's Cell - It makes me think of The Stand...only just the good parts and less boring in the boring parts (because there aren't many at all, unlike The Stand)...cell phones make people go crazy, like zombies and then they evolve and eventually get all sorts of telepathic mind powers and other such crazy stuff. Good book. Worth checking out.
Meh, I'm done...Just felt like gettin' on Ye Ol' Soapbox.
