All in all, everyone will get used to it. I mean seriously, they couldn't come up with a better name for XBOX then tagging on the 360 after it? And it still sucks compared to PS2 (Just think when PS3 comes out ). There's not a sports game you CANNOT play on XBooox . . . but seriously, the new Nintendo console will do alright.

"Oui" means yes in French. This is seriously dumb.

"Non... non.... OUI."

Probably what Nintendo is hoping for.

The "official" name doesn't matter to me, I will call it anyway I want. Most people at my school and free time don't even know what Nintendo is, nor do they know the SNES or even NES.
About the "Wii", in german it's "Wie" which can have be alot of different meaning, for example:
-"Eh?" (That's really what my dictionairy says)
or -"how", "as", "un-/like", etc.
Not that I like the name, but I don't like "Game Cube"(even if more fitting) either.

Why not calling it the "Nintendo Eh?"? That's what most People will say anyways.

I went w/the Zeality quote because that's what I first thought of, but the one about the Revolution sounded better than it also fits. Ever since Nintendo got rid of the "Ultra" suffix name from the 64, I was always dissapointed in their console names. I didn't care that they called it the "64" (which actually is a stupid name and to many a consumer it doesn't make sense), but the fact that they changed it was a real pisser. It felt like a liniage. Super begat Regular and Ultra begat Super and so on would the trend continue...But w/e.

And Famicon sounded totally better than SNES or NES.

I dunno about that...I mean, Famicom extra wouldn't make sense in many of the other markets...Since it wasn't them manufacturing the systems in other markets...It was, of course, a more family-friendly name...

Quote from: Average Joe Shmoe
Yippy, the new Family-computer just came out!

It was a very '80s name.

But then again, as what's-his-face said, "What's in a name..." and all that rot. If the system's good, it'll do good regardless of it's stupid name. So it'll probably do ok or maybe a little sucky...

Best comment I've overheard yet from The Internets on this one:

People reacted in many ways (some have argued that Nintendo marketers have been smoking some "wiid".)

In portuguese it sounds sort of "Ui", which would be like an "Ouch" in english, sort of a pain exclamation... And that's pretty much how this new name felt... A kick to the guts >.>

Not that I really care about it... but well..

Wie in German is "how". I was forced to take the damned accel. courses in school. Am I really going to need to know german for the future? Hell no.

But look, let's just wait and see what happens with the Wii-unit :)

"Wee" in Scottish (not really a language, but a regional dialect of English, let's say) is little.

My father's secretary's daughter's husband's surname is "Wii," except spelled differently. He served in Operation Desert Storm as a second lieutenant out of Twentynine Palms! ^_^

To hell with the name. It'll play Super Metroid; 360 and PS3 won't. They could call it the "Radical_Dreamer is an asshole" and I'd still buy it because, just on the back library, it has a larger selection of games I want to play (or replay as the case may be) than PS3 and 360 put together.

Too bad about the emulators that will be released on PS3 and 360. I'm still with Wii. I mean, Super Monkey Ball Wii and NiGHTS, not to mention Elebits...gold. And yeah, the Nintendo games...*cough*
