Couple fo thoughts.

First with the Porre rebellion. Chorno and Male could have been killed if during the attack the were so sick they couldn't get out of bed.

Second if Lavos was made by an alien race they could have different survival needs, the world in2400 A.D. might be perfact for them.

Ok that was a bit harsh. I think what he is trying to say with the second point is that Lavos made the world like that so he and his spawn could live there or something.
