King Zeal's Sprite

We are going to need a King Zeal Sprite so anyone skilled with spriting that would like to try their hands on it feel free to try your luck.  I'm not sure how much space the "Programmer" sprites use from the Dream Team.  I suppose if push comes to shove we can replace the yakra sprite or something.  I really am not sure what I'm talking about exactly but I'm sure someone does.

Wasn't there already one made or partly made? I seem to remember that Claado Shou once had an avatar which was an animated gif of King Zeal casting a fire spell.

Hm....not sure anyone in contact with him?   I remember someone making some awesome schala sprites.

By the way the stairs are looking great, I've imported just waiting for another update.

There's another issue, which enemy will be replaced by King Zeal? I was thinking we could make a King Zeal sprite from Queen Zeal's sprite (since they should or could look like each others), but if we replace the Queen then we'd be forced to make her not appear in the game.

Well, I dont know sprites to well but Zeal does have a "NPC" and an "Enemy" sprite so unless they are related we can have the King just take his enemy sprite?

EDIT: aha, we posted at the exact same time. I'll rephrase my post:

Queen Zeal does appear as both NPC and enemy, but both use the same spriteset according to the numbers I see in Chrono Tweaker.

...But here's a beginning of sprite I did. It's basically Queen Zeal turned into a guy and with hair from the 2,300 AD NPC man. I think it came out nice, although I had a hard time making his hair not too similar to Serge's hair.

Wow, Chrono 99  your quite the um......what is it mercenary (can do it all).   Don't worry about replacing Zeal if anything the one scene that has Zeal will be cooler if we replace her with King Zeal, we'll just reword the text.  And that did come out awesome by the way.  If you can finish before Zeality comes back we may even be able to put it in the demo.

EDIT:  Does both NPC Queen Zeals have the same number in chrono tweaker (there's one that's just the death peak cut scene)

Alright I did 5 sprites, the 3 "walking south" and 2 facing left or right (same one flipped actually). It should be enough for the demo. Queen Zeal has to be replaced, but it's for the better I guess (you never see the King in CT, so you'll never see the Queen in CE... logic :) ).

I will paste the graphics on a rom and it should be okay. Queen Zeal's address can be found on an old topic on Acmlm. I hope it's the good one (1AAB7F - 200 for the header = 1AA97F).

Err... there's a problem like there was with the overworld stuff. The decompressed graphics appear with only 4 colors. This time there really should be much more colors, so it's impossible to try to paste the King this way... What do we do now?

Chickenlump is the most successful with importing sprites.  Or make a post in Kajar.  Sorry I'm not very useful when it comes to graphics.

What. The. Heck. I re-decompressed the stuff and everything is normal now. There are 16 colors and the dump seems shorter for some reason (but all the frames are present).

Now I just have to cut and paste the spriteset. Then change the palette (this will be more tedious).

Damn this is really frustrating. I keep messing up between changes and unvoluntary reverts and random guessings... I guess the demo release can't wait for King Zeal... especially since the spriteset is uncomplete anyway (though we don't need to see the King's back and the King's laugh for now).

If someone wants to try the sprite import, here's what should be done (what *should* work hopefully):

1/ Rename 1AA97F_kingzeal.txt to 1AA97F_kingzeal.smc

2/ In Temporal Flux, recompress 1AA97F_kingzeal.smc to address 1AA97F

3/ In a hex editor, go to address 240EE8 and simply enter this sequence of values:

9c 73 3d 32 5d 53 83 08
2f 45 63 14 e7 48 6a 59 27 29 f4 62 c6 10 8a

Sounds simple, but I messed my rom with so much programs opened at once that I think something kept reverting the stuff I did. Hopefully someone else can do it, or just release the demo and I'll see later if something's uncorrect in this method (and I'll finish the rest of the spriteset also).

I'll send you the latest ROM through e-mail. I've had the same problem with portrait editing. I guess you can't open the ROM in two different places, since those programs save the entire ROM rather than just what you've changed. So I'd open TF, recompress, then close it, then open the hex editor so it opens the new ROM.

Edit: I'm not sure if it sent; let me know if it went through.

Okay, I sent you the ROM with the King added. This time it seems it's all good, the only issue that could remain is if some other sprite uses the same palette... but at first glance this doesn't seem to be the case. King Zeal is alive and kicking! It's a shame he can't be the demo final boss or something, since I didn't do all his frames yet (I'm still surprised I managed to do 5 frames so quickly). It's already awesome enough I guess.

By the way is it normal that nothing happens after the King and Magus's dialogue in the MM hall?
