Ayla wasn't a third grader. We have no reason to believe that she was using the word "like" in the same sense that a schoolchild with a crush would. Simply that she favors the company of the strong. Mind you, Ayla and Kino seem to have a monogamous relationship, so it is pointless to assume that she is looking for sex partners of any sort.
