Janus and Lavos?
« on: June 02, 2006, 05:55:27 pm »
I can't remember exactly when, but some Old Man in 12,000 BC says something that always make me curious:

Quote
The Guru of Life said that Sir
   Janus has stronger powers than
   even Miss Schala!

Janus must be using her and the
   Queen to get to Lavos...

I never really got this line.  At first, I thought he might be implying that Janus' extraordinairy magical abilities are a result of him interacting with Lavos.  My second guess was that maybe this Old Man somehow knew Janus hated Lavos (?) if for whatever reason he even hated Lavos pre-Ocean Palace incident.  Although this guess is also weak, it could make sense.  After all, Janus knows that something is wrong with the Queen, and I feel like a kid like him would be smart enough to put two and two together: it's Lavos' fault.  Was Janus plotting against Lavos for a long while?  (Also, a less likely theory could be that Lavos was somehow related to King Zeal's death.  They only mention it once and don't say how he died.)

Any ideas?  I'm completely lost.

It's a mistranslation. In the English version, the Elder notes that Janus has a huge magical power that he's hiding. He says that Janus must be using the power to get close to Lavos. Ted Woolsey, bless him, accidentally screwed up the meaning of this line. It was meant to say:

Elder: I heard from the Sages-sama that
Jyaki-sama hides an amazing magical power
   that surpasses even Sara-sama.

However, he hates that power, which drives
the Queen mad and torments Sara-sama, and
together with his heart...He has shut that power away.

This means Janus was reluctant to use the magic that drove the wild and unchecked ambitions of Zeal. The retranslation is in progress, and is about 70% done.

Oh wow, that's awesome.  That's actually a really cool addition to Janus' story...

This is yet another proof that Schala isn't that special and even Janus is more powerful than her :)

But she is special. Schala may be holding it back aswell, because as that quote said, it torments her, and she hesitantly uses it. Heck, when Magus came in contact with Lavos, he lost so much of his power. Schala stayed in contact with Lavos for 13,000 years, maybe more, and hardly anything happened to her. Infact, she became enlightened, and has found a way to traverse dimensions and time herself.

Yea, in the end Schala comes up on top with the whole transcendant-Nirvana-Buddah equivelent-Godhood-ascension dealio when she learns the thing about da' Meaning of Life.

Magus turns a guy into a Frog and laters undoes it.

There's no real evidence of this...

Oh? Well Schala let herself get pushed around by Dalton, of all people. Major point subtraction.

That Frog kicked major ass mind you...
And, Schala did not kick nearly as much ass as Magus.  I mean did Schala manipulate an entire war just so she could exploit her revenge... no she didn't, she didn't even try to have revenge.  What an idiot.  Plus Schala lacks a cat like Alfador, everyone awesome has a cat like Alfador.

OMG. Don't you even understand her personality?
Schala isn't violent. Shes passive, no matter what. She doesn't use her powers for evil, because she's already tormented enough with what she has to do with them. She'd rather not argue with her mother and do what she tells her, as Schala has morals and listens to her elders and does not judge people by who they are or what they're doing.

Magus has cape. That means he is more powerful. Duh.
But then again, Schala has ecchi fan art...

And why are we arguing this again?
This is coming from you, Mr "Lucca Isn't A Lesbian Damnit!" Zeality :P

Yeah, it just isn't that great of one.

Quote
Schala isn't violent.

In what world is the word "No" violent?

Quote
Shes passive, no matter what.

That's not a good or bad thing in and of itself. It's a bad thing in what she was being passive regarding, however.

Quote
She doesn't use her powers for evil, because she's already tormented enough with what she has to do with them.

I don't see them being used for good. And using your powers to help Zeal gain ultimate power and immortality is at least "Naughty" if not "Evil"

Quote
She'd rather not argue with her mother and do what she tells her, as Schala has morals and listens to her elders

So if I disobey an elder because they're tampering with dark forces that could kill us all then I have no morals?

Quote
...and does not judge people by who they are or what they're doing.

I can understand the first part, but the second one sounds oh so very silly.

Schala -10 points!

GreenGannon: -10 Points, arguing!
Zaperking: -50 Points, having a crush on Schala!
GreenGannon: -a gazillion Points, being an asshole!!
:lee:

Whatever.

Anyway, having not played Chrono Cross which is more Schala-centred, I won't know much about her personality, but what I know is is that she is basically the total opposite of Magus. Except in power. This is probably because Queen Zeal had sex with Lavos, and created the most powerful children in history. Or something like that.

Janus is stated twice in CT to have better power. And yes, the fall of Zeal may have happened because Schala was too afraid to resist.
